Russia will keep spewing its bold declarations until the chair legs break from underneath them.

At the rate they're going with no meaningful progress to show, leaning on conscripts and under-trained troops and aged tech, sooner or later you hit a wall.

Hearing about their crumpling air industry and the cannibalizing of planes to keep others in the air feels like a small window into a pretty bleak situation that is a cumulative effect of many factors including sanctions.

That well isn't bottomless, as much as it's leader will attest otherwise.

It's a war of attrition for Ukraine and outlasting is all they need to do. Hopefully the west won't leave them high and dry now because I'd suspect within a year or two, the other side will cripple itself.

A really interesting interview about the lessons already learned by NATO. Short version: The Ukrainians are also doing a lot of the teaching, NATO has no real experience on this type of conflict.

Interesting analysis, lots of credit given to Ukrainians ability to learn, adapt and innovate.

Post-war, Ukrainians will probably have the best operators of some western equipment. Gen. Hodges for example mentioned that while theoretically NATO has the systems in place to do counterfire artillery strikes, they haven't actually done it in real life in ages.

Electronic warfare is an area mentioned where NATO is seriously lacking, especially when it comes to providing it in scale to counter the massive numbers of drones a modern battlefield might see. Just generally adapting to drones is a big deal.

Rumours the Russians where flying to Krynky everyday dropping glide bombs from a safe distance, until it wasn’t safe anymore. Sounds like the PAC 2 Patriot battery pounced on them like last summer.

That last video of waves of Russian troops being mowed down by cluster bombs is insane, and I've seen tons. It just shows the insanity of Putin sending waves of meat on the front lines to die. And when you realize there are dozens of attacks like this, each day, each of them mowed down like this.

Really sobering piece on one of the few bright spots on the Ukrainian counteroffensive, or what is considered a bright spot/moral victory.

This quote kind of hit hard to be honest

"Observing the political theater from a distance and death in proximity, the soldiers say they are hurt that their lives are put in jeopardy for what they say they perceive as a “political decision” to have a symbolic success on the battlefield.

“People are killed to hold on to the ruins,” said 47-year-old Senior Sergeant Petro, who leads a radio intelligence platoon of roughly 20 men with the 38th Separate Marine Brigade.

Goes to show us that despite what we may all see and think, a lot of times the "good guys" in this fight are also using their own meat grinder tactics for what may be considered little to no gain.

Godspeed to these defenders!

What's more insane is nobody has put a bullet in his head yet

I think if F-16's can enter the game it will absolutely change the war for Ukraine. I have no doubt whomever they train on these things will be better than Russian pilots and Ukraine will be able to take control of the air in it's own borders. Once they have enough to actually give their infantry and ground forces air support, they'll be able to cross these boundaries a lot easier. It was dumb to not have them getting trained and delivered as soon as war broke out, but that's the past. I hope they can make a difference.

I really hope the delivery of F-16’s can make a difference.

At the same time, we saw that with the time it took Ukraine to get much needed equipment to start its counteroffensive, it gave Russia ample time to dig in defensive positions and mine every inch.

As much as they’ve sent in waves of meat to the slaughter, the Russians are also evolving and adjusting their tactics. No doubt they’re strategizing for what Ukraine can do with new planes in hand.

With all that said, hopefully the planes make a difference, and at minimum, it leads to better defensive strength, and also gives them some momentum for an offensive.

Attritional warfare is just horrible.

It can work, and it's probably the only option open to Ukraine currently, but it's still just absolutely horrible.
