Yeah, its the report that they were "stunned" and "trying to get their heads around what has happened" in March that bothers me.
This was apparent in January. I'm talking the first week of January, or whenever they dropped that road game to Chicago. If there was any fence sitting, that should have been the tipping point.
Now, if your plan is to sit tight and run it back next year because this was a crazy year for everything being off, fine. Thats a plan. But that's not what the reports are. The reports are that they're taking calls, they're listening, but they have no idea what to do.

I have only watched one Wrangler game this year. Zary managed to score but was very unimpressive for pretty much the whole game. Was he nursing an injury?
I came away from that game being disappointed in Zary and very impressed with Porier.

Seems to if you want to make a “hockey trade” the best plan is to do it in two parts. Draft capital is cheap to acquire at the deadline and is worth more at the draft.
|
As has been said, the deals from contenders seem hot right now. But there are only so many of those. In the summer there will be over half the teams wanting to improve their on ice team for the upcoming season. even some of these contenders may have discovered that they actually needed a Lindholm or Zadorov or Toffoli during the POs and pay a good price for that one piece. And 2023 draft positions will be crystalized so there are fewer guesses.

Then not following what you think their plan should be isn’t the same as them having no plan. They could very well know exactly what they want to do, and it just hasn’t come together yet or they’re in no rush to put it together.
People act like every player is interchangeable with every team and that any time Calgary doesn’t make a trade that another team made that somehow it’s entirely Calgary’s fault. A little naive, I think.

Jarvis...maybe but that seems like a pipe dream too.
Teams rarely trade young guys already contributing when trying to improve their team.

Jarvis would be a long shot unless lindy is involved
Could see kotkeniemi being avaliable. He's only 22 and signed longterm. Hasnt produced at the nhl level yet but hes yping I bet there is some untapped potential still.
Otherwise I'd just want future. 1st and one of their D prospects

You mean like people saying that Treliving should have signed Johnny in the 2021 offseason? Like this NHL23 and you just sign players the player can't so no.
Players have to be willing to sign to be signed, and team have to be willing to make the trade to complete a trade. It isn't that simple.

I was referring to the Friedman tweet, where he implies that Calgary at this point doesn’t know what they are going to do.
If that’s true - inexcusable.
If it’s not true - I guess we’ll see what happens

I'm reading that way more as Friedman doesn't have a clue what they are going to do and is filling airtime and trying to make it interesting.

You mean a tweet from someone else, not including full context of what Friedman said on radio?

Friedman said on the radio (Marek show, will be on the podcast soon) that people close to the team described them as not knowing what they're going to do. Wasn't Friedman's opinion.

They shouldn't know in their case though
Why be desperate to go either way? like I said earlier if an offer blows your doors off take it, if not why do it now?

The tweet where Friedman says he doesn’t know if they know what they’re doing?
He literally says he doesn’t know.
Since when is an insider saying something like “I don’t know if that player is on the block” something we warp into “THAT PLAYER IS NOT ON THE BLOCK!”
Pretty absurd.

It’s also pretty absurd to take “not knowing what they’re going to do” as if they don’t have a whole list of plans depending on what they can or can’t make happen. It’s not like they are sitting around literally saying “we have no idea what we’re going to do”.

Yeah, name the Flame who like Bertuzzi, Horvat, Tarasenko, O'Reilly or Meier or even Jeannot that is a decent player on a pretty cheap expiring contract and fits the acquiring team. You have Lewis and no one else. And Lewis ain't getting you a 1st rounder.
The only first rounders handed out for non expiring contracts this year have been Elkholm (a dumb deal) and Chychrun (who was about to become very hard to trade with an MNTC). Hanifin is the closest to CHychrun and he already has an MNTC.

Friedman has been low key trash for years. Basically ever since he stopped just being a reporter and they decided to make him a "personality".

Get Kadri off that line and put Dube on there and that could be our gamechanging line.
