Diss is right that there are few, if any, scouts who consider Iginla to be a likely centre at the NHL level. You can ignore that if you want, but it does seem like there is an element that if anyone dares speak negatively about Tij is either accused of "not watching him" or "having a bias".
My observation is that there is far more of a bias in favor of the player than against.
And again, none of us really know, so all the views should be considered acceptable and good discussion.
I mean that's totally fine but even if you remove the single player out of it it's a bizarre take. Player A thinks he can player center, player A's team wants to try him. Random on the internet = No way it can happen ever. It's just odd. And there are hundreds of NHL scouts, none who give their opinions publicly.
All views should be considered acceptable but those that are nonsensical should be challenged.

It's probably because I'm paying more attention this year than others, but there's about 9 prospects that seem really exciting and I'm glad we should be getting 1 (maybe even 2).
It feels like no matter what, a really good prospect will be available at 9.
There are two reasons prospects don’t make the jump to playing C in the NHL.
1) The don’t have the tools: skating, size, processing the game, defensive diligence.
2) They have the tools, but in order to take on the responsibilities of a C they have to sacrifice too much offence.
It’s possible 1 doesn’t apply to Iginla, but 2 does. For example, Mercer with the Devils was drafted as a C, has played a bunch at C in the NHL. But he’s much less productive when he plays C, so the Devils prefer him at the wing.
It’s just a huge jump to play C in the NHL. Half the guys drafted at C in the upcoming draft, including blue chip guys like Lindstrom and Catton, will probably wind up as wingers in the NHL.
Every wants Mercer because he’s a C who is being pushed down the lineup.
I’m not challenging you here, asking a question but how much C has he played? Did he switch to wing this season? Because if so he is a better player up the middle as he had his worst season.
Especially if someone says something as fn stupid as this.

You drive by with that BS comment before and don't take responsibility for it, but instead drop this beauty? The only part you are missing this time is taking a shot at "everyones kids".
One poster shouldn't have said it about Yak, but he is known for sarcasm.
What are you known for? Diss is right. Who the eff are you?

I definitely should not have said that.

For the record I hope I am dead wrong about Iginla at centre if we draft him because him becoming a high impact centre would be massive for this club! I don't see it but it isn't like I haven't been wrong about stuff before.

At the end of the day, I am not going to be up in arms with whomever the Flames pick, as I will just simply assume that they know more than me, and that this will work out. There are so many players in that top 12-14 area that seem like impact players. That's all I want - a core piece being drafted who will become an impact player for this organization for the next decade, regardless if it is one of my 'hopefuls' for this draft, or not.

I think as flames fans we all know we will pick the wrong player. And we need to accept that.
I'm a pessimist when it comes to the Flames but I feel they may have to go out of their way to totally botch the pick. There's a very good chance they may not pick the best of the remaining players as can always be the case for any team, but I feel there's enough decent prospects in the range they pick that whomever they pick won't be a total bust.
Q: "Coach was saying you should be going back to playing center next season. How do you approach this challenge, and is it the position you really want to play going into the NHL?"
A: "I kinda want to go back to center, and like you said, I talked to my coach about that. I was a center all the way growning up until I was 16 and then I played a little of both. Then this past season, I was mostly on the wing, but I think it's good to be able to play both and to have that versatility... but yeah, I'm excited to get back in the middle. You think of a lot of the best players in the game... you think of McKinnon, McDavid, Matthews, Crosby... those guys are all centers. If you can play that position well, it gives you a great opportunity to have a really good impact out there. So yeah, I'm excited to get back to that spot."

Hockey News final 2024 draft rankings (from June 7th):
Quote:
9. Tij Iginla, C, Kelowna (WHL): The Rockets star just kept getting better as the season went on, culminating in a gold medal with Canada at the World Men's Under-18s. Iginla has a wicked shot (wonder why...) and he's not afraid to go to the tough areas in order to create offense.

?
Was it sarcasm?

FiNALLY we won't have to worry about getting Iggy a centre. It only took two generations.
