I feel for local sports fans that have only have the Dome and McMahon stadium as their sole live professional sports experiences. It's akin to people that like cars but only were only able to drive Ladas over their lifetime. Seriously though Calgary must be close to having the worst sports facilities in North America for a city of its size.

Not too bashful to stand up and cheer, but get thoroughly annoyed when other people can't sit still or feel the need to draw attention to themselves. Another example would be, like, if you have the game on in the background at a social gathering just so people can keep an eye on the score or whatever and somebody has to scream or clap obnoxiously because some teenager they don't know put a piece of rubber past a 23-year-old they don't know. Like, ####in settle down, guy.

I doubt 299 people were annoyed about it. Calgary just has a lot of boring, mousey fans that make the overall experience really dull. I’ve been to a handful of Hitmen games this year, and the kids are always having a great time (dancing, making noise, etc) while the parents who are just there to check off a dad-box are pretty boring.
You already said you aren’t a hockey fan and just go for the popcorn and like leaving early. Isn’t it kind of ridiculous to expect an experience that caters to you vs an actually engaged fan of the sport?
If you want a library, sit at home with the volume turned down. Pretty simple and you don’t have to worry other people enjoying themselves because it makes you uncomfortable.

It really is. The food options, and facilities are by far and away the best in the city.

Oh yeah it's dreadful. I haven't been to a ton of arenas but I have been to KeyBank Centre (Buffalo, built 1996) and the Honda Centre (Anaheim, built 1993), and while they're only about a decade younger than the Dome they're both leagues ahead of it in basically every capacity. I can only imagine how nice some of the newer ones are.

And yet... up until a few years ago, wasn't it one of the better options in North America for Winter Olympics training?
That's weirdly sad in its own way.

PepsiFree, you have a memory like an elephant! Yes, I polished off my popcorn, then half my kid's popcorn, then some nachos with double cheese, couple beers, some licorice. It was a GD feeding frenzy. Then we went home after the second period because we all had our fill.
IDK, don't see what's weird about that. Who says hockey games have to be 60 minutes, or at least, who says you have to stay for the whole thing? Forty minutes of watching teenagers skate around an oval was plenty for me.
My point is you can be engaged without going out of your way to let everyone within a 300' radius know you like to yell at young people playing a game. Go be a coach if you think you're so useful. Maybe you're used to people yelling like dip####s because you grew up going to hockey games? I didn't, so wandering in as an adult and seeing what these monkeys get up to is super annoying.
It'd be like if you grew up in a church where they speak in tongues. I'm sure it's perfectly normal and rational for those people. Throw you or me in there and we'd be shocked.

I wouldn't say I'm uncomfortable. I'd say I'm deeply annoyed, but that's a very comfortable state for me. When I enjoy myself I try not to #### up other people's nights. I'd appreciate the same respect from this one screeching banshee.

Not these days, apparently. The last 4 movies I've gone to I've had to shush obnoxious idiots flapping their gums through the whole damn movie. Even had staff kick one putz who wouldn't shut up out.

I'm staying with my parents in Chestermere for a month starting in April during a house renovation. I'm looking for commuting tips as I work downtown, specifically what are the best routes? My hours are generally 6-3. I was thinking Chestermere to Stoney to 16th then south on Deerfoot to Memorial but I really have no idea what's the best. The way back after work seems pretty round-about as well.
Anyone commuting to and from downtown from Chestermere?

So, my tv watching of late has epitomized me as poor taste, white trash... but, it gave me a helluva idea.
Hardcore Pawn, should build a pub alongside the perimeter of the building. One way glass, and just drink pops and enjoy the people watching.

I used to date a girl who lived in Chestermere. Coming from DT, I used to take 9th Ave through Inglewood, turn on 19th st and then straight up 17th ave to Chestermere. Coming in, you'd take 17th ave, turn on 17th street, around the roundabout, back on 17th ave to 9th street through Inglewood and into DT.

17th now absolutely sucks most of the time. Ever since the BRT was put in, it takes forever to get from deerfoot to Stoney via 17th. I’d probably do memorial/16th because at least you’re moving most of the time.

Depends on where in Chestermere you are. If you're east of the bridge (or near the Safeway complex on the other side), then HWY 1/16th Ave > Barlow > Memorial is the quickest way. If you're further east Rainbow Rd way, then 17th Ave > 9th is probably quicker. There's also the option of ducking off 16th Ave at 68th St and taking Memorial from there if 16th itself is a ####show for some reason
I lived in Chestermere for 15 years and commuted downtown for most of it, it's really not that bad. In light traffic I could be from my door to the 4th Ave flyover in 25 minutes, in morning rush hour it was usually 30-35. Driving home was slower just from the DT core congestion, usually 35-40 minutes. It was an easier commute than my friends who lived in the deep south
