I was a little fascinated by the first episode, but on the whole no. It devolved into something quite inane and non-sensical pretty quickly. Sadly the same can be said for season 2, and my expectations for season 3 are very very low.
The only NuTrek I like is the first couple episodes of Strange New Worlds, so far, and what is easily the best thing they've done with the IP in decades: Lower Decks. It plays some of the underlying absurdity of Star Trek perfectly for laughs without being "mean" about it.

If they really want to convince us this is good, though, they need to take some red shirts on away missions as fodder. No reason to have Kirk get fake taken out when you can sacrifice some reds.
Kirk being incapacitated within 5 minutes of every away mission would be kind of fun trend. “Oh my god! they killed Kirk! Oh wait, he’s still got life signs. Let him sleep it off, we’ll come back for him before we beam back out”.

I was blocked by Star Trek's official Twitter account @StarTrekonPPlus. Pretty sure I've never even spoken about Star Trek on Twitter. I'm pretty sure I've never been blocked by anyone before, either. It has to be a regional thing?
All I wanted to do was confirm which night SNW airs, lol.

Also on CTV Sci Fi Channel. We stumbled upon it last night, didn't even realize it was available in Canada if you did not have Crave. Pleasantly surprised with the first two episodes.
Like...hell, even Picard's quarters werent that opulent and the Enterprise D was essentially a Cruise Ship.
We just need to accept that the new 1701 is at least twice the size of the original in scale and therefore everything is huge inside. The bridge is twice the size and therefore the dome on the saucer is twice the size. You can see the Shuttle interior is as big as a mini bus.
The re-imaging is just a larger scale with higher production values and modern sensibilities. The only modern sensibilities I don't like are the fact that the crew is using 21st century idioms like "cool" and "keep your foot on the gas" etc. but then again McCoy said "thing's gotta have a tailpipe" in ST VI.
I have accepted the show in this way:
We roughly know the events of classical history happened such as the assassination of Julius Caesar, etc. But those legendary characters are almost mythological by now. Depending on which classical author your read (Cicero, etc.) it can be interpreted differently. Furthermore, the way we imagine Caesar meeting Brutus on the steps is visualized widely different in all the classical paintings that are our point of reference for many of these events. Sometimes its up close, sometimes there is a grand scale.
SNW is just someone repainting legendary characters from a classical canon in a different way and I can accept that. Otherwise, I would never be able to accept that Uhura and Kirk are the same characters despite having widely different mannerisms and traits to Nichelle Nichols and Shatner. This is not the prime timeline. This is not the Kelvin timeline. This isn't an alternate dimension tied somehow to the original canon. It's a re-imagining.
Oh yeah. Sam Kirk is the one who dies in Operation Annihilate. I was referring to James T. Kirk as he has already been revealed to be in the show in season 2
I'm going to nitpick, thats just the way my Star Trek fandom operates, but its like the producers all sat down and thought:
"Hey guys, with all of the Star Trek on TV in these crazy times maybe we should just have one show where they like, you know, Trek through the Stars? Seek out new life and new civilizations? Solve problems and such? Maybe? Whaddya think? Spock can even be there."
Yes, so far two episodes in I am really enjoying this.
Anson Mount is perfect. I think he's absolutely killing this.
And another thing! Captain Pike takes suggestions from his crew. This is not some haphazard collection of mindless, useless idiots but rather a group of highly intelligent and capable Starfleet Officers who work together to solve problems.
Fantastic.

If you thought this season would have a happy ending, you haven't been paying attention.

After 2 episodes I already know who each of the crew is and so far each has been focused on one member not named Pike or Spock. We already like the crew and they aren't faceless people while the show revolves around Mary Sue Burnham or elder abused Picard. They are also all likable and there isn't anyone you hate.

Out-nerded! So its canon accurate and her all along with these anachronistic 20th century internal combustion engine references! First telling Spock to stay on the gas pedal on the comet and then saying that the ST VI BoP had a tailpipe 30 years later.
