That one person was the elected leader of thousands of AB PC.
Two dufus candidates cost WR last election so yes one or two persons could taint thousands.
That's how this world operates.

If we give Redford the benefit of the doubt and assume that's true, does that let her off the hook? There's some interesting parallels to the Harper/Wright/Duffy case here (if we also accept Harper's word that he had no knowledge of the bribe offer from his chief of staff).
|
Heh, well really the only parallel is that politicians love to blame their staffers. The poop rolls downhill and all that. There were a bunch of cases in the US this year as well I remember reading about in other threads.
It's such a common practice you pretty much expect it. I would argue, as I did in the PMO scandal that it doesn't really let her off the hook. You're either corrupt, or incompetent, or both. But it's always worth a shot.

Well, it sounds like there might be an investigation on the basis of 'breach of trust'.

Except that it isn't one person. Particularly since that person is claiming ignorance.
What it is, really, is a corrupt former leader of the PC party and her staffers actively engaging in this and many insiders in the same party enabling it by turning blind eyes until it became politically expedient to stab her in the back. Like it or not, this all reflects on the PC party itself.

It sounds like she really F'ed things up and felt as though she was unstoppable as the leader. I feel ashamed that the folks in my former riding voted her into office.

Then she is either grossly ignorant or an idiot, and we are well rid of her. Not that I believe anything she says for even a second, she already has a history of accomplishing a lot of malfeasance in a short period of time.

I look forward to your admonishment of the PCs next time they try to (continue) to paint all WR supporters as Lake of Fire mouth breathers as a result of the actions past candidates.

Why would her staff book faked passengers in the first place? This reply from Alison was comical in how stupid she takes us to be.
Mike Duffy should use this Alison defense, "I'm innnocent as I didn't know my staff took bribe on my behalf."

Apparently, judging from some of the posters in this thread and by the way they keep getting elected, many people are just that stupid.
I guarantee you, many will continue to support and vote PC, regardless of what they do.
Also, I guess after publicly declaring a pay freeze, the Tories quietly lifted it for senior officials. I'm sure nobody in the PC party knew about that either though...

why, If I remember Wildrose called out the government on this months and months ago.
But when the government has a majority all you can do is be as verbal of an opposition as possible.
I'm not siding with Wildrose here, but they're limited in options.
As for Redford's excuse that she didn't know, she had a reputation of running her office with an iron fist and being one of the most unpleasant persons to work for as it gets.
I very much doubt that she didn't know.
The PC's have to show some integrity and drag her in front of a very public commission.

Did Palin have spending scandals?
Not defending Palin in the slightest here, she's a mess for a whole host of reasons, but unless I'm missing something I don't see a lot of similarities here. Besides the fact they both have double X chromosomes.

Wasn't there "the bridge to nowhere" scandal while she was in office? I'm pretty sure there were scandals around the library when she was mayor of nowhereville before getting the "Govnah" gig too. There were multiple scandals involving her husband too, and the state police.
The similarities I think are that they both have little regard for the actual job they were supposedly hired to do.

Yeah, she's been involved in a couple of scandals where taxpayers have been on the hook for legal expenses incurred by less than above board practices as governor and mayor.
Not like Redford though, I don't think.

The big difference betwen the two is that Palin straight up quit her job in the middle of her term in order to enrich herself, which for a public servant is rather deplorable. Both were clearly incompetent and immoral and possibly corrupt, but at least Redford didn't quit I guess (she was obviously forced out, if not she'd probably still be Premier).

Well the bridge to nowhere would be more of a public spending scandal than a private one. Something which pretty much every government gets caught up in at one point or another. A lot of bad projects, or porkbarrelly projects to go around.
I dunno if I'd say Palin had less regard for her job than the average politician. I say average cause it could probably be argued successfully that a lot of politicians don't have much regard for their job, so it's a tough comparison. What I would say about Palin is that she is dumb as a bag of rocks, has little regard for viewpoints beyond her own, is not qualified for her job, and all that considering running Alaska is probably one of the easier jobs to begin with. A bunch of money with low population.

the only similarities between Palin and Redford is that they're both women. Beyond that, there's nothing
Palin, dumb as a bag of pucks, but passionate in doing what she thinks is right for the country
Redford, smart but would take full advantage of the country with her position
