See my post above.
Reduced radar signature is a pimple on the Elephants ass when held against all of the other capabilities this platform brings to the battle field.
So is speed. Not really important.
Two engines? Nope...the 1960's called and asked if we could please put this one to bed? They've been inundated with phone calls/messages (yet again) and they're getting a little sick and tired of it.
What this platform delivers is all of the #### that is way too far up the "need to know" ladder for ANY of us peons to have any idea as to what it can do.
As I alluded in my prior posts? I have personal connections with a few of the current fast air folks in the RCAF.
I've already said more than I probably should have, but with regards what I've heard from those that DO KNOW?
There's only one solution to the equation.
So congratulations JT!
There's one of the few platform promises you actually followed through on...
That whole "never buy that airplane" thing.
Spent $1.5B to punt, (Aussie F-18A's) and hand the football off to the other guys.
Well done...small (derisive) clap inserted here

Not just cross functionality with other F-35's but cross functionality with every asset in the battlefield if you take it that far.
Basically you can be sensed by one F-35 and destroyed by any other unit from any other direction.
basically its like a swarm of bee's working together, you might see one bee, but the bee's that kill you, you are never aware of.
Battlefield capability and whole group situational awareness with the F-35 is far beyond anything else out there.
And other posters bought that up. We as ordinary people, have no idea of the true capabilities of this plane is.
The day of close in dog fighting is dying. A 4th generation plane, will be dead long before it gets anywhere that its of use.
Also with the future munitions and capabilities that can be installed on the air frame will make sure that the F-35 remains ahead of the curve until we see functional 6th generation fighters in a couple of decades.

No one here is thinking pilots dont want the f-35. It's the newest plane out there. But what's missing in this context is who they're flying for. We just wasted, literally threw 1.5b out the door at crazy Tim's used f-18 super hornet discount outlet.
The pilots may want the f-35. But the government buys the equipment, not the people who use it. We should be hoping they get new airframes and engines of whatever model they buy and not used.
Would not shock me in the least that they get a bunch of new f-18s. Because in the governments minds, that's as close to what they are using right now. Go with what you know.

What's your point? We know government will screw up procurement.

My instinct is government goes with the F35 but I fear an 11th hour Gripen purchase like none other.

That is the point. It's like moms going shoe shopping for their kids. Kids want the new and latest Jordan's, they get a pair of velcro zellers shoes.
Like I said, what we should be hoping for is they at least get new planes. With that new plane smell.

A fleet of U.S. presidential helicopters bought by Canada seven years ago will be stripped down for parts by the Canadian military to keep its search and rescue choppers flying.

Ah man, cutting corners on equipping the military is a Canadian tradition.

Yes more A/C is nice but if you can't afford to maintain them or don't require them for the operation there's no point keeping them in flying status.

probably wrong thread, but Kent is going to be unemployed at the end of this election. He should have been fired by the Liberals. But they kept him around and he kept silent on Bills C-48 and C-69 and made an a$$ out of himself in the house during the Norman apology motion. He's done a tremendously terrible job and exposed himself as a rude and creepy jerk.

W5 is doing an expose called Guinea Pig Soldiers, which investigates the use of Mefloquine, and how it destroyed lives and left soldiers with long term serious mental health issues.
One platform promise from the Cons that I really like is an inquiry on why we allowed our troops to be used in a clinical trial, why they its use was continued?
This was a dangerous drug and may have been a root cause into the Canadian Airborne behavior that lead to its dissolving.
There is a massive lawuit coming soon.

I think its a stretch to blame a culture of hazing and childish behaviour that started in basic on a drug that was used in theater.

The reporter that did the story was on CTV news this morning, the horror stories that she was telling.
A soldier in Afghanistan having a dream about putting his gun in his mouth and shooting himself and waking up with his gun in his mouth.
The manic behavior of troops on deployment including the Canadian Airborne.
Long term seriously damaged former soldiers who are still suffering from nightmares, paranoia and mental ailments.
This was a bad drug from the start and the Government allowed them to be used as lab rats based on the lies by the company that created the drug.
Even after the alarm bells went up the Canadian Forces was still using this drug until 2016 and the Forces Command was still denying its effects
