what better way to create jobs than locking up criminals in bigger jails. im not suggesting we throw political prisoners in jail, or, creating crime, but jesus christ, repeat offenders need to stay in prison

But why are the feds imposing tarrifs on Chinese EV's while at the same time stipulation that they want Canada to move towards all EV's eventually ?
Wouldn't it make sense to flood the market to make them affordable for everyone ?
I've been grappling with this question/decision recently. My first position is that doing business with China should be evaluated very rigorously and it is not something I necessarily view as a good thing. But, when it comes to EVs and battery technology it does seem like China is a leader or at least very well positioned and the have significant economies of scale for bringing down R&D and production costs. It would be great to see a vast offering of cheap car options. We don't necessarily have a large domestic auto industry to protect but to some degree we have to "play nice" and align with the US because what industry we do have is reliant on the US corporations.
Unless you're talking about LGBTQ+ rights, the environment, and science. As long as the CPC are cozying up to the freedom caucus movement, they are certainly not listening to average Canadians, but the fringe.
Everyone in Canada has the same rights, excessively taxing Canadians won't stop flooding or fires and is not a climate plan, Liberals only believe in "science" when it is to their advantage and the "science" agrees with their ideology. Trudeau liberals are the most corrupt party Canada has ever seen. CPC is listening to Canadians a lot more then the Liberal/NDP, can't wait for the next federal election.

The Liberals threw the sink at it, they had almost every member of caucus in St Paul's making calls, knocking on doors, posting pleas to vote, up through yesterday. The Liberals that couldn't get there were putting up glowing references for Church who was considered a hand picks star (Former staffer for Freeland in finance).
But the under 40% voter turnout was pretty telling, it feels like a lot of normal Liberal voters just stayed home, they didn't even bother to park their voice elsewhere.
The whole think was bizarre through, the ballot had 80 people on it or so, that's insane,
I doubt the results will change much when we head into the general election, there was a survey done that looked at replacements for Justin if he should step down, and it wasn't encouraging, I think the Liberals have poisoned their brand a little bit.
Liberals like Judy Srgio (sp?) have already come out and said they expected that they were going to lose but Justin should stay and fight the next election.
The Liberals like a aging hockey team need a serious rebuild and refocus.

Isn't that high for a by-election? I think most are in the 25-30% range for turnout.
Against my better judgement I sat through that...you would think if the subject is "Why Women Have Become Much More Liberal Than Men(and why did I capitalize every word?)," and they clearly don't figure out why, they maybe should have had a female expert on as well? It could have been titled "Conservative men can't really puzzle this one out, help!"
They flew a little close to the sun discussing abortion and #metoo, but sure couldn't close the thought. Nor make the connection that the more educated you are, the more likely you vote democrat, and with women taking more higher education, well golly gee?
Pretended to address the Overton window, but kinda dismissed it, missing the point that the Republican party has moved so far into ####oo land that well educated women are smart enough to see the danger in that, as they have their rights pilfered.
I rate this video a -1, uninsightful.

Most Canadians don’t give a toss about the freedom caucus. Most haven’t even heard of them.
One of the problems with Trudeau’s Liberals is their only tactic is to point to the Conservatives and shout “MAGA North”, but that only works on high engagement political junkies. Support for the Liberals is tanking because of economic issues - cost of living and housing. A lot more Canadians care about that stuff than care about the rage-bait posted on social media every day.

Car manufacturing remains a major industry in Canada and concentrated in key voting areas. And with the US imposing tariffs, you don't want to be out-of-step with your key partner in car exports (and all exports in general).
You mean most Canadians don’t spend all day on various message boards obsessing over the freedom convoy and the evil Cons coming to take away their rights , and are more concerned about paying rent and buying groceries ?
The election is going to be a bloodbath . I hope a few people here have their safe spaces reserved for the aftermath

On the claims that Toronto St Paul is akin to the Liberals imprenetrable fortress of solitude, I'm not sure that's the only conclusion. It was the same MP for the last 9 terms (prior to that we are back to the 80s, but it generally alternated back then and earlier). That's a bit different than having 4 or 5 different MPs win in the same spot. And there's always a self-fulfilling prophecy thing where once other parties recognize it as a difficult incumbent to unseat, they don't direct (m)any resources that way.
It was certainly fair to call it a liberal stronghold, but this also isn't really that shocking
At no point did I claim the Liberals have the answers. And while the CPC is certainly taking advantage of a whole of issues that the Liberals have not fixed, they haven't exactly come up with too many viable alternatives - and since they have a habit of losing elections due to worries about their social platform, they should probably stick to economic issues instead of giving the Libs or other critics free ammunition on their Trump North finger-pointing.
I don't think shouting any of "guns", "climate", or "LGBT", is going to save the Liberals this go around. Surely (don't call me that), some within their ranks must be aware of just how badly this inevitable strategy of theirs is going to fail?

Environmentally, yes. But not economically, because China subsidizes their manufacturers, steals IP, and doesn't give us reciprocal rights.
It's an interesting problem, the ethics of tariffs on environmental products, but I think it's fair to go with economics. If we price carbon accurately to its social cost, then we'll end up with the optimal number of EVs anyways.

I’m not sure I would hitch my wagon to “women need to vote Liberal or they will lose their rights”.
But Trudeau is, we will see how that works out for him.

The entire discussion is US based, where liberal and conservative are used(and this is discussed in the video), but it isn't a direct proxy for Democrat/Republican.
Anyway, that statement you put in quotes that I didn't say(for clarity!) is fairly true for women in the US right now. If you think that is debatable perhaps you'd be a welcome guest on the podcast.
