Imagine in the 2000's someone saying presidential criticism would be reduced to "just say he poops his pants and wears diapers", that'll get him!!!
Lowest common denominator of an undereducated population I guess. I always thought idiocracy would become a documentary...but didn't expect it to play out like this.
Also, diaper baby and poop pants won't work...its childish and doesn't really stick to his character fundamentally. The same way that old Biden doesn't work. Sleepy Joe works because it is an expectation of doing nothing - which attacks at the core of leadership and helps lock in people's confirmation bias, even though he has been one of the most productive presidents in the last 60 years.
For Trump the confirmation bias needs to be that every time he lashes out its a confirmation that he is going senile to be effective. Otherwise, his rants will continue to he unchallenged click bait getting his base riled up...
They could just stop carrying him as a story. His posts are all on his basically non-existent social platform. No one would see it if the news didn’t splatter it everywhere. He’s not showing up to debate other candidates, so just consider him a non factor. Why even put him as a poll option? If you polled Joe Biden against a number of people NOT running for President, they may also poll higher.
“Donald Trump said Nazi stuff!?! Blah blah” what else is new? No one would see or hear it but the few hundred morons still buying tickets to his nonsense rallies if they don’t plaster it all over the news. Lots of other stuff is happening.
Even his investigations. “We have word of a new audio tape, but no confirmation, let’s discuss what is possibly there!!” Or, just wait until the court hearings and see then? Trial date for March? Great fill us in then.

If anything I'm more worried about the next Republican "star" that is more polished and "normal appearing" to the masses that takes their attempts at destroying democracy to it's final stage, if they don't succeed with Trump.

This a thousand times over. Trump seized on the same sentiment moving worldwide. We can mock Trump and his supporters all we want, lord knows I do as well, but the anti-establishment, nationalist ideals are what needs to be better understood. Left leaning parties need to stop dismissing such a growing movement (eg basket of deplorable s) as they need to govern everyone if they win. Right minded individuals and parties need to figure out how to speak with what is now a big chunk of their base, understand them better, win their trust but not have their every policy and ideal co-opted by this group.
