8 goals in 2 periods? Half of them from standard shots and rebounds?

Hey, so we're doing pretty crappy so far(as usual these past few months), so here are some tips from NHL09...they should still translate to NHL10 somewhat. We are a casual league team so don't take this too seriously though. It would just be nice to win more than we lose ...after all we used to be 20+ games over .500 back when we first started.
NHL 09: A Non-Glitcher's Guide to Offense
NHL 09: The Lonely Defenseman
NHL 09: How to Become a Better EASHL Teammate
There are more articles worth a look at operationsports.com and maybe chuck can dish out some tips.
I'll be on tonight sometime after the game.

I'm going to be sprucing up some playbook tips as well this weekend. Overall our problem is that we are playing disconnected rather then as a unit. We are doing things that we shouldn't be doing, and thats largely because we don't know precisely what we should be doing. Doesn't matter how much skill you have. If you are playing all over the place, you're not winning. On the other hand, doesn't matter how little skill you have if everyone knows what there doing and what to anticipate. Lot harder to beat 5 players then each individual one.

I don't really think it is 'plays' or the playbook we need to worry about...

Another thing is how many of us are fully boosted? I know a few of us are but it seems we only are worked by teams that are all boosted. I know I myself have the bare minimum boosts.

We are primarily worked by those teams because not only are they boosted, but they are playing much smarter as well. They're moving the puck quicker, don't force it into unnecessary areas, play positions well to not give up easy space, and when in trouble, get the puck off their stick quickly or work themselves out of trouble. Basically, they're playing well enough that they don't run into problems or play breakdowns that could've been avoided with more awareness of their teammates and play development.

I agree.
Having my legend card hasn't exactly shot me through space in terms of my play.
Statistically, I am better, but the smart play is still the smart play, whether I have 85 passing or 90.

The thing is the cards don't really do much this year. Now it's all about the equipment with the +5 boost slots and they make a ton of difference.
Also there are a couple of us on right now if anyone took the day off work.

Crash and Bang Winger

I like Badger's quote (from the Shammers on XBOX when they won in January) when he was asked to describe the Shammer's team defense:
Quote:
BADGERx29x: It all starts with the fore check and when we dump and chase it’s a 2-1-2 most times, and depending on the situation of the game and or opponent we’ll stick with it or run a 1-2-2 and try to trap. Everyone understands their lane assignments in the neutral zone to try and force a dump and chase.
In the defensive zone we like to force teams to the outside, with the hope of forcing an untimely shot or pass, making it a mistake and when that happens, it can lead to a costly turnover and possibly a game changer. We play a box +1 type defense, the defense men are responsible for their side of the goal posts to the corners, and center is in the middle of the box controlling the slot, and wingers are boards to top of the slot. The good teams make you try to chase, and that’s where problems lie but last month especially everyone understood their defensive roles/positions and executed it very well.
|
Also when asked about the dump and chase-style game, he answered:
Quote:
BADGERx29x: Our “tough guys” would be our defensemen. Some like to take the body more then others, but they’re the ones who play the most physical. We mix in some dump and chase and in most cases it’s an aggressive style but not overly aggresive A 2-1-2 type fore check is what we normally run when dumping and chasing. First man in board plays the defender and the second man in gets the puck and than the thrid man stays in the high slot and then proceeds to his position in the offensive triangle we run when the strategy works and we get possession.
|
This pretty much sums up what it takes to be successful in this game.
Now if you want to see this in action, the EASHL playoffs start this weekend, and as I understand it all the games are to be recorded and posted on youtube. Boosts or no boosts, cards or no cards, anyone can play this style. I highly recommend watching some of these games and paying attention to players that play the same position as you and watch their positioning and decision-making. Even if you decide you don't want to play the same way, you may pick up something useful.
Chuck out.

We need to utilize the points more and even behind the net more. Sometimes we have great games where we can get into the zone pretty easily.. but then waste the chance by not setting up and just throwing it cross crease.
I'll be on ~30 mins.
