yeah, 38 is pretty stellar nowadays. it really is too bad that they couldn't take better advantage of such outstanding pitching this year. that's baseball.

Yep, if the Jays had any offense at all early on in the season Doc would of had 24 or 25 wins this year... He lost quite a few low scoring games.

Jays are preparing a 4 year, $52 million deal for Burnett. Can't imagine that's enough to keep him, as outrageous as that seems.

It's not outrageous at all really. Burnett's making $13.2 million this season and is coming off an 18 win season. Wins are a ridiculous way to judge a pitcher's quality, but they're still probably the stat that influences the starting pitching free agent market the most.

What is a good stat to judge pitchers on though? Wins are bad, ERA is bad etc. In Burnett's case his ERA wasn't very good but his win total was. He threw a lot of innings, struck out a lot of hitters, and didn't give up that many hits. His ERA probably ended up higher than it should have been given how he pitched, but he ended up with more wins than pitchers with 4.07 ERA's normally do. But if you look at say his innings, strikeouts and WHIP, those numbers probably do line up with what his record was.
