What is a good stat to judge pitchers on though? Wins are bad, ERA is bad etc. In Burnett's case his ERA wasn't very good but his win total was. He threw a lot of innings, struck out a lot of hitters, and didn't give up that many hits. His ERA probably ended up higher than it should have been given how he pitched, but he ended up with more wins than pitchers with 4.07 ERA's normally do. But if you look at say his innings, strikeouts and WHIP, those numbers probably do line up with what his record was.
