It almost feels like the board starts speculating and the insider tidbits seem to follow the collective guesses and desires of the board a little, if I'm being honest.

Very strange situation.
I guess if Hanifin turns around and extends with Vegas soon this will be more disappointing. But if he goes to free agency and signs elsewhere? The return is pretty much the cost for a rental like this.
Just weird hearing they were dictating the destination in order to extend but not extend first...

Bingo. This is the expected return. Hanifin is a third dman on Vegas and may not even be on their powerplay. Bouwmeester is an excellent comparable in terms of trade value.

The Flames really should have gotten a prospect out of this.

So let me get this straight. Hanafin announces the teams he will go to lowering the teams leverage. Then he doesn't sign with said team. But you know he'll end up signing there.
How's that not the definition of tampering?

If Vegas gets Guentzel and then Stone once again is ready to go come game 1 along with anybody else they are going to park in LTIR like Martinez the league has to stop this bs. Make the cap count in the playoffs, it's that simple.

2026 first is more valuable than a 2025 first, which is more valuable than a 2024 first. These conditions are great!
People have been so unrealistic about the time it will take to build a contender. The Flames aren't contending until 2030 at least, so build towards that. Short cuts end up being like the last rebuild that went nowhere.

yeah, but expecting Vegas to be that bad in two years is a longshot to say the least. No protection on that pick probably won't be a factor.
Usually you get another pick in case a 1st slides ... just surprised we couldn't even get that. Just disappointing all around.

Don't know what was on the table. ..... The fact Connie had done well so far may have played into gms not wanting to give in..idk

When you think about it, a pick from a present contender is better the further you get from this year. Vegas is worse than last year now. I don’t think they will be better next year, and potentially worse the following one. Their top players are getting up there.

Don't fret friends. It's just game. Conroy didn't do anything wrong. Just admit YOU wanted more and cannot acknowledge there likely wasn't any more to get from anybody.

So, who are we cheering for in the playoffs?
Dallas, Vancouver, or Vegas?

Yep, pretty apparent that Conroy had better offers and didn’t take any of them.
Meanwhile, Hanifin was itching to re sign with the Flames.
People have short memories…was the Gaudreau “trade “ better for the organization?
Shoulda, woulda , coulda?
Conroy took the best offer.
Well done!

Except the 1st ended up 12OA. And good chance both 2nds in that trade will be in the 30s.

not thrilled with the return but it is what it is, unless people somehow believe Conroy turned down better offers.
|
I have largely looked at Conroy's work since he took over as trying to fix the disastrous 2022 that Brad Treliving had.
I think he's done a fine job. Not a stellar job, but he was not in a position to succeed.
Now? Now he has a pretty blank canvas. He didn't make his situation worse with terrible extensions, and he still has a couple of pieces to sell (Kuzmenko, Markstrom, Mangiapane).
This is a rebuild, they can't hide from it. This is one of the deepest cutting sell-offs we've ever seen in a single season.

I wasn't explicitly on the bad trade band wagon, I'm generally more of a wait and see guy, I don't know these players.
But the top 10 protection + retention is pretty brutal. As others have pointed out Sean Monahan was traded for a 1st last week. A guy who needed a 1st attached to be given away not much than a year before. I would have walked this right up the draft floor this year, if this was the return.
