Yup, I agree-I think JG gets mid-80's for points. Part of that is playing under Sutter, with an up-tempo, puck-possession style that puts the puck in the opposition's end most of the game. Another reason is that he won't get to play with a C of the calibre of Lindholm, at least not this year.

Fourth period reporting the contract negotiations seem to be going well with Weegar and Flames hope to have an extension in place before training camp

He also confirms that the Flames have interest in bringing in either Milano or Rodrigues.

IMO, I would rather see what we can get in a trade for one of our D, rather than get one of those 2. Rodrigues has inflated stats IMO, and Milano is a one-dimensional speedster who is supposed to be a goal-scorer, but doesn't score many goals.

It seems that even after 8 years, Brad Treliving is still a hardworking GM that puts a lot of hours in. The Flames have been one of the busier teams all summer.
I just can't see someone like Lou Lamoriello putting in nearly as many hours in as Treliving does.
Hopefully these things get done before the end of the offseason. And hopefully the Ruzicka deal gets done soon as well. Happy to hear about these rumors.

It would suck to be drafted by the Flames.
Leave it alone, give Ruzicka a shot FFS.

I'd rather sign one of those free agents, keep the D the way it is, and then not have to give up assets either for a winger or for the usual depth defenceman at the deadline.

Right now, CapFriendly has the Flames at 12 forwards including both Pelletier and Ruzicka.
He'll get his shot.

I think we'll have to trade 1 or 2 defensemen anyway-we have 10 on one-way deals, and we should get something before losing them on waivers. I don't think Valimaki or Mackey will make it through.

Valimaki, at this point, is a hugely overpaid AHLer. Mackey is 26 and hasn't made an NHL lineup yet. I'm confident they will both clear.

I respectfully disagree. Defensemen like Wolanin, Cholowski, Juolevi, Pouliot, and Connaughton were picked off waivers in 2021-22. If they can get picked up, surely Val and Mackey are likely to be as well.

I see Mackey as the #7D on this team becauase of his lower cap hit compared to Valimaki's
They've invested a lot of time in him and he was the best defenseman with the Heat last year, I doubt they will send him down. Conroy sounded confident that he was NHL-ready last year too.

I agree, but I wonder if Sutter wants a mean, physical guy to form the 3rd pairing with Zadorov. Meloche fits that bill a bit better than Mackey, IMO.

If Tanev isn't ready for the start of the season, I could see Sutter trying both of them with Z on the 3rd pair. I still think Stone will be brought back and will be considered there too.
Based off what Treliving has said Tanev should be ready though. Will be interesting to see how it all plays out.

might not be a bad idea to have cap space when teams are trying to sneak guys through waivers

Yeah things have gone terribly for Gaudreau, Tkachuk, Mangiapane, Dube, Kylington, Backlund, and Andersson.
Injuries happen, Flames are going to need more than 12 forwards. Depth is a good thing.

Yeah, I wonder when we re-sign Stone too. A lot depends on which D gets traded, but if I was Mackey I would looking at Meloche as my main competition-and Meloche is a righty, perfect to play with Z.

Panarin exploded
Tavares had a career high in year 1 TOR
Mark Stone had a short run with VGK before his extension kicked in, but he maintained a very high level
Duchene had a poor year, terrible year, and rebounded this year with a career high year...
Hall didn't do very well in BUF and settled in below his typical production now in BOS
