It’s so sad (sad, like “I feel bad for you because it’s all you have”) how personally Edmonton sportswriters take these things. They are so invested in their beloved (c)oilers that any perceived slight against any player is grounds for irrational emotive responses.

Imagine using a quote from Ryan Kesler in defence of your position on integrity in the game. INTEGRITY!!! (Incidentally, the same Ryan Kesler who was enemy #1 up in the chuck not all that long ago...)

Delusion? Maybe. But moreover demonstrative of the depths to which Edmonton media will descend in order to defend their most beloved.

To be fair, I've seen a bunch of former players and media defend kassian, with zero ties to the oilers or kassian

Have any for tkachuk? Genuinely curious

It tells you all you need to know about Zack Kassian's hockey sense that he considers his direction of travel to be his blind side.

Says a lot about the current culture (or the former I suppose as so many retired players have chimed in) that a guy can execute clean, legal, hard checks and is then expected to have to fight someone who has 50+ lbs on him.

Dumb.

Yeah....but look at who those players are largely.

Kesler and Bieksa, among two of the most classless idiots to ever lace them up in the modern generation of the game side with a player like Kassian over losing his head over clean hits?

The context there really says it all.

When Kesler and Bieksa ride to the defence of St. Kassian all you can do is wonder whether you've wandered into the Bizarro World and you thought all of the moustaches and goatees seemed conspicuously fake or if everything is actually right in the world.

Kesler, Bieksa and Kassian are one the same side of an issue? And they all happen to be resoundingly wrong?

Sounds about right.

If you try digging you will likely find some but the oilers media won't sharing those ones...the flames media are trying to ignore this event and move on. That is the difference.

I don't care if ex-players agree with what he did or not, that doesn't matter at this point. What matters is that Chucky helped the team win and I bet he does the same thing again because he doesn't care what some ex-players think about him, he cares about what his current team thinks about him. The team supports him and I hope when they play the oilers again that Lucic actually punches Kassians face a few times without his gloves on. Obviously I don't want Lucic trying to hurt him and punch him in the back of the head a la Kassian did to Tkachuk.

It is shocking that people are still talking about this.

Has anyone bought the movie rights for this?

Could see huge $$$ potential. Who should Kassian be cast as?

The Staples thing has passed to creepy obsessive. It feels like either a guy named Matthew gave him a swirly in high school and stole his lunch money. Or David really wants to make out with Matthew and is raging because he's being ignored.

Staples and most of the Edmonton media are mentally unhinged.

Keep up the good work Matty.

I’m not really trying to get into this, but its actually more like 5 lbs difference although nhl.com has it at 8. They are damn near the same size. It’s not like Lucic vs Nuge or anything like that.

Fair point, I had always thought they were mismatched in terms of size.

So I will instead look at this from a rational perspective.

If you were smart, would you fight an insane guy?

Really, this is easy to tackle from any perspective and it circles back to what is my original point. You are playing honest, hard hockey. Why are you expected to fight?

They sure don't look the same size though do they? Especially the way Kassian was whipping him around with that horse collar.

Either way nobody would confuse the two, Kassian has a long fight history compared to Tkachuk (33-7), and even Staples refers to him as " one of the toughest, meanest players in the NHL".

One made it to the NHL on skill, the other made it to the NHL on fighting ability. I suppose it is hard for some to confuse the two attributes.
