Going to the first unread post is pretty useless if you don't want to read all the stupid Drouin for Raymond, Colborne and third lolz Trade proposals.
I have to admit I hate it when I see threads like this, the trade rumour, or Drouin thread bumped and I go into it looking for news and it's just a bunch of nonsensical, hypothetical talk often deviated from the original topic.

Infact, there is speculation that Wideman is blaming this on being woozy from a hit but initially it was a shoulder issue and no concussion protocols were taken. So its reasonable to question if he lied at the hearing to protect the bench staff.

God. It's 12:15 ET. Do you guys have the attention span of a six-year-old? Even in the age of instant access and gratification, not everything happens—nor should be expected to happen—immediately.

Patience.

Agreed. I mean, here we are discussing the merits mega threads in a thread that is expected to release news about Dennis Wideman's suspension. I keep opening this thread with hopes of finding new information about Wideman!

The problem is that by locking a thread the mods are closing a conversation that people could be enjoying. It also prevents good bumps to a thread. Too many new threads about one subject is annoying unless they get closed, which requires active mods. We could literally have 4 threads about the same subject:
-- Wideman hits ref
-- Wideman suspending pending hearing
-- Wideman hearing
-- Wideman suspension results

Not to mention any trade/contract threads that are effected by a discussion. So if there's a good conversation happening in any given thread, it gets locked when a new thread emerges, hence a mega thread in lou.

It's very difficult to please everyone.

Not even a year ago, we were fielding complaints about having too many open threads on the same topic littering the front page of the board, and interfering the possibility of having several different topics displayed there.

I have no doubt that if the "mega thread critics" are appeased, then the "too many open threads" crowd will once again become suddenly more vocal.

Because of the complexities between the league, team, players, and refs I wouldn't expect it to be quick so I was posting to have a little fun. As my kids would say, 'fun pooper'.

Apparently the forum software doesn't cope well with resetting a poll.

My guess is that Campbell is trying to get a number that will allow the team, the player and agent, both unions involved, and the league itself to move on without appeals and such. The NHL wants this settled and off the radar asap but have so many considerations to involve.

Funny. That is exactly what my kids call me.

Though the statement was mostly a joke, you realize he wasn't 50 feet from the incident right? He WAS the incident!!

Can we start a new thread once it's announced so I don't have to wade through this garbage?

Thanks in advance.

I definitely agree with that. What I've found helpful is putting the serial arguers and quantity over quality posters on ignore. Typically any poster who averages over 4 or 5 posts per day goes on ignore - it makes the pages look weird having half the posts gone, but definitely makes for more efficient and enjoyable reading, I've found. That said, I see how most wouldn't like that solution.

I think our first clue that there is news regarding Wideman will be when the title of the thread is changed within 5 minutes of the decision being announced.

And shortly there after the details will be lost and burried by posts about people's cats and how they once thought they were a lawyer..

And how about those poor people actually working all day/evening who finally get on CP to get the details but have 50 pages of randomness to sift through. Poor #######s.

No.

Soon each subforum will just be a single megathread.

Then all the subforums will be merged into a single megathread. We'll call it "Discussion"
