what effect does the puddle really have? Is it just a spot where you can't land (so you have to jump it)? For example if a character is one space away from the puddle and it "wins" square 1, then what happens?

you have to stop there.

so if you're 1 away from the puddle and you win square 4, you can only move to the puddle.
