This is gonna come off as a reach, but if we miss out on Matthews/TheFinns/Dubois/Tkachuk, the player who is piquing my interest next is German Rubtsov. There's a clip of him in this video where he's the lone man in on a 1-2-2 against four guys, and somehow manages to win the puck and score a goal. Really reminded me of Ondrej Palat the way he's so dangerous without the puck.

I don't follow Jr. Hockey closely, but it appears to me the London Knights are head and shoulders above the rest of the CHL for consistent talent development...is this true??
Good at recruiting anyways. Both Tkachuk and Jones had College commitments until London, who had both their chl rights, came a calling.
I'm a little disappointed that the Flames are playing their way out of a good lottery pick. Don't get me wrong, I like seeing the Flames win games, but I want to see those wins come when the Flames are in the mix, not when the season is nearly over for them. A guy like Laine would have really improved this clubs chances to build a contender sooner.
I guess it's nice to see guys like Nakladal, Jokipakka, Agostino, Hamilton, etc.
Dubois sounds like he might be this year's Bennett. A prospect that is outside the top 3, but is trending up still.
I don't like that he is about to be suspended for a dirty hit, but hopefully the discipline helps him learn to control himself better. I don't mind playing with an edge, but you need to know where to draw the line.

Monahan received a long suspension in his draft year that may have cost him a shot at playing in the WJC
Down to 5th spot after the homestand. I enjoy the wins in the moment but drafting 7-10 would be pretty disappointing after enduring this season... Hoping the long road trip means lots of entertaining losses.
I thought Bennett was more of a mini faller, I remember him being 1st on a lot of boards mid year in heavy competition with the other sam and draisaitl being the riser later in the year
He wasn't really a faller per se. The top 4 that year was very close with little to no separation between them. Ekblad, Draisaitl, Reinhart and Bennett, those 4 could've gone in any order. If you changed up which teams were drafting 1-4 they probably would've gone in a different order.
Bennett was ranked #1 by both CSS and Redline but I don't really consider it falling when he's merely one player out of a fairly equivalent top tier of four.
Very similar to 2003 with the top 4 of MacKinnon, Jones, Drouin and Barkov. MacKinnon became the favourite with his Memorial Cup performance so he was likely to go first but the other three could've gone in any order. Switch who picks 1-4 and they'd likely go in a different order.

Hes a guy i play hockey and curling with. I've already said that if the flames draft him, I'd better get a jersey or something out of it. He's a huge leafs fan and they have a great chance at getting Laine so he's excited.
Do you think Dubois' actions lower his draft position at all?

Come to think of it, I am probably thinking of Monahan in his draft year and not Bennett.

I don't believe his actions lower his position, but depending on how long he's out, we could potentially see other guys pass him if they have strong finishes to their seasons while Dubois is on the sidelines.
They must trying to build an Oiler-proof lottery machine.
Just shows how stupid the NHL is.
Why build an Oiler proof lottery machine when you could have just made a rule that no inept organization can draft 1st overall 5 times in 7 fataing years?
Instead let's just change the odds so that teams that aren't pathetic and just have a rough year or two while legitimately rebuilding have a better chance of getting fata-ed out of the high pick they need and deserve.

taken from HF poster Woodhouse who transcribed Buffalo GM Tim Murray talking about the draft on Buffalo radio
Quote:
BUF GM Tim Murray (audio 13:51-16:07): "Drop off after three .. just off the top of my head, [another drop] somewhere in the teens .. 12, 13, or so, but in saying that, the team picking four is going to get a hell of a player, so when I say there is a drop off, there's a drop off from three guys that are combined franchise to impact players, and then four could be an impact player but he's more than likely going to be a quality NHL player so that's how we rate .. from three to where we're going to be picking, you're gonna get a 5 or 5+ out of 7 in our rankings and is going to be a quality top-six forward or quality top-three defensemen .. [Matthews first, two Finns next] yes .. [Tkachuk's kid] yep, keep going .. I'm not sure [if Chychrun's fifth] but you'd have a group of names, so you have in the forwards: Tkachuk, Nylander, and guys like that; then you have the defensemen, you have: Chychrun, Juolevi, and guys like that; so you're still getting a hell of a player .. but you still want to win the lottery, you still want to have control, it doesn't mean you want Matthews, you want control, how many calls you think you're getting the next day, one or two might be interesting, you never know."
