I'll just say what we already know, Real is truly spoiled to have both Kroos & Modric in their midfield.

Sweden made defensive subs. Played for the draw and paid for it.
Just putting 2 men in the wall was bad too.

Absolutely brilliant goal, with the bend and the wall the keeper never had a chance. Germany still have problems, but they have control of their fate at least.

I was screaming at the TV for Reus to take that kick instead of Kroos. Redemption for Kroos, he was abysmal.
Probably the end of Boateng there, great player who was the best in the world for a few years but injuries have taken their toll, he’s too slow.
I would have brought Brandt on earlier, he’s looked really good.
My heart can’t take this. At least they finally played a good half.

Fantastic execution on the free kick. Change the angle after the first touch by those few feet forward and towards the middle, gets it around the wall and gives that much more room far side.
That and the Sweden keeper trying to punch with the near arm as it goes by him...in a game of inches that angle and timing matters.
Germans full value for that win. Dominated.

I think I can breathe again. What a match.
The Germans were the clearly better team but still making a lot of the same mistakes defensively, again, basically playing with a back 2 and as we saw at the beginning they paid for it.
One of the worst games I think I've ever seen out of Tony Kroos but credit to him, he didnt sulk or quit he just kept at it.
And that winning goal was fantastic.
One of the only times I think I'd say that I think Low screwed up his subs along with his tactics and only World Class talent pushed them over the top.
Boateng was basically playing in midfield alternating with Rudiger, but losing Rudy and Draxler really dented the speed of this team.
And I'm not as pessimistic about Gomez as most apparently, I thought he provided a useful focal point and he distracted the Swedish CBs and it allowed Reus and Werner to generate width without always having to rely on Hector and Kimmich.
The last set of games in this group is going to be wild, you'd expect the Germans to pump the Koreans for as many goals as possible but the Sweden/Mexico game will be amazing, two good teams and its all on the line.
All 3 could realistically finish on 6 points.
But man oh man...the performance of the players, the tactics of the management, what is going on in this German team?
This is not how they played in qualifying, this is not how they normally play and where are the goals?

The inconsistency with it is frustrating. Don’t have it at all if you’re not going to be consistent with it. If the nearest official is 25m away when people go down in the box, probably a useful time to use it.
Two players tackle a player in the box (SRB-SUI) that goes uncalled? Maybe that’s when the VAR team can step in if that’s very their mandate (“hey, you should probably take a look at that one again”).
Meanwhile other games have been using it. I get that inconsistent reffing is the status quo at the World Cup, particularly in the group stage when they have the largest pool of officials going, but direction needs to come from the top if they want this to be a tool people can actually embrace as beneficial and not just another variable that can make things more inconsistent, because that’s the last thing the sport needs.

It was an exciting finish, and now I’m hoping for a 1-0 Sweden win over Mexico and a 1-0 GErmany win over Korea just so we can go deep with the tiebreakers for some good drama.

Tie breaker after head to head and goal differential and goals scored etc, is Fifa fair play points. Germans don't have an edge here I assume with a red.
If still tied, it's drawing lots.

Truly shows why Madrid have won 3 straight CL.
Kroos, Modric, and Ronaldo are dominating at the World Cup - it’s almost unfair they all play together at RM.
Plus throw Isco, and Casemiro on top of that in the Midfield.

Apparently just before the winner you could get 150-1 odds for Germany to win the World Cup. Surely someone capitalized and put some cash down on that.
