LeBrun is gospel as far as I'm concerned when it comes to Flames news. They way he worked and broke the Hamilton trade to Carolina sold me.
After that, maybe Bobby Mac if he's making reports.
And then there's everyone else on the same tier.

If they weren't going to sell, the best move by far would've been getting Korpisalo for Vladar and a sweetener

Max domi would be a good guy to have for several years
He was moved for just a late pick not along ago... if only we bought low

The French connection is going to be legit for some time
We really do need to give them a better fit at center

Push back defenders? That is the opposite of Domi's game.

Probably unpopular opinion but if we were to sell Toffoli and Backlund by the deadline this is how we would look without further changes next season:
Huberdeau - Lindholm - Dube
Pelletier - Kadri - Coronato
Mangiapane - UFA/Zary - Coleman
Dueher - Ruzicka - UFA/Zary
Potential Assets:
Toffoli - 1st round pick (2023), prospect
Backlund - 1st round pick (2023), prospect
Maybe I'm out to lunch with the returns, but the market is hot right now and without knowing who the potential suitors would be I'm not going to guess at which players we could be trading for instead of draft picks, but I think the roster above with these deletions wouldn't be much worse than what we've seen this year assuming other players have bounce back seasons and the young guys contribute which I think they would.
What you're left with:
- Additional draft picks for the DEEP 2023 draft
- Additional $5.35M cap space from Backlund
- Additional $4.25M cap space from Toffoli
- Maybe they use that cap space to add another top 6 player if they don't think Zary is ready, or there's a solid UFA or trade piece coming back who commands a higher salary. But cap space is a huge asset on it's own, let alone the returns from trading these guys who would be a huge boost to any teams playoff hopes.
Obviously it's all personal preference but these are the kind of moves I'd like to see and would give me hope for this team over the next 3-5 years, load up on picks for this years draft and start integrating our up and coming young guys into the lineup while remaining competitive, and ensuring you're getting value for players who's contracts are expiring soon, having great seasons, and who are 30+. I fully expect the Flames to trade players for players instead of picks but this is the only way I see us potentially "building through the draft", because this team isn't doing a full tear-down rebuild.

Like get defenders to back in with his speed rushing the puck?
Was that the idea?

Post Trade Deadline
Mangiapane/Backlund/Coleman
Dube/Lindholm/Toffoli
Huberdeau/Ruzicka/Pelletier
Lucic/Kadri/Duehr
Ritchie
Hanifin/Tanev
Weegar/Andersson
Zadorov/Gilbert
Mackey/Stone
Markstrom
Wolf
Trade Lewis for a 4th
Trade Rooney for a conditional 7th
Trade Zohorna for a conditional 6th
Trade Vladar for a conditional 3rd
AHL playoff roster
Pelletier/Jones/Phillips
Pettersen/Zary/Duehr
Sutter/Mclain/Schwindt
Gallanet/Bishop/Klapka
Posipsil/Rooney
Poirier/Desimone
Kuznetsov/Meloche
Solovyov/Brook
Poolman
Wolf
Dansk
I don't think the team has laid down enough groundwork to get enough value from the 2024 UFAs, but if you can move Tanev/Toffoli/Zadorov for packages that really add good future assets you probably do it.
I don't expect Coronato to sign but if management really thinks he will then make a spot for him this week.

Hard to say. Earlier in the year, Domi publicly said that he loves Chicago and wants to to stay there. I imagine he is pretty tired of moving around and if he found somewhere that works well for him personally and professionally, maybe he signs a sweetheart deal with them. In that case, they might want to hold on to him at least a little longer.

I do really feel for guys like Chychrun a bit.
Guy has been a professional about it but it's dragged on way too long now, and really it feels like Arizona has really flubbed this up and overplayed their hand.

I just don't see the Flames making any moves at Forward.
Who's moving down or out?
Dube? Nope, Darryl loves him.
Pelletier? No chance.
Mangi/Coleman? Doubt it.
They're not moving a center. All three are slotted pretty well.
Darryl likes Lucic/Lewis.
Walker? Sure, but you don't trade for a player to play 4th line.
So that leaves more D, Tre's favorite.
I think they move for Chychrun or do absolutely nothing(which would be my preference).

A bit of a different set of circumstances, but that's what I thought about OEL, and then they managed to swing a great trade with VAN.

Completely different set of circumstances - Jim Benning is no longer a GM.
