Hold on, its just an opinion but here let me break it down how I see it from a neutral fan.
They have some raw talent yes, but I am not convinced yet as its not groomed talent. Look at my dolphins they want respect after last year starting 2-4 and finishing 11-5. Well repect is earned and Miami doesn't have it not after one hot season, they started with a crazy schedule and now they are 1-3. They would be respected if they were 3-1 probably as they lost to 3 playoff caliber teams. The dolphins are not there yet.
Denver to me could easily be 2-3 but they are not. There good players are making plays at the right time. The ball is bouncing there way and everything seems to be going there way right now. Can they keep it up only time will tell or will it be the same fate as last year when they were 8-4 and failed to make the playoffs finishing 8-8. Yes I know they are a different team with different coaching, so its probably not valid to use last year.
I would rank certain teams that are 3-1, 4-1, or even 3-2 better than the Broncos in my mind. This is just my opinion. Denver won at home against NE but that is the only big win, can they win against a big team on the road, maybe we will see next week in San Diego. They beat Cincy on a fluke play, they beat cleveland one of the 4 worst football teams in the league, they beat oakland one of the other 4 worst football teams in the league. They beat dallas who barely beat KC yesterday (also one of the 4 worst teams in the league). Dallas is not a playoff contendor in my mind.
I will wait and see how Denver does against San Diego, Baltimore and Pittsburgh. If they are 5-3 I would say they are pretenders if they are 7-1 after that, then this team is probably for real.
Just my opinion, no one elses, and don't get me wrong I was rooting hard for the broncos yesterday and was quite happy when they won. It helped the dolphins out.
Well, you really didn't touch on the lack of talent...that's ok though.
Almost every team in the league could have a 3 game swing right now. It's that way every year. The good teams usually find a way to come out on top. There are 3-2 teams that can say they could easily be 5-0.
The fluke win label on the Cincy game is starting to get old though. Every DB in the NFL has been taught to bat that ball down. The Bengals' DB did not do what he was supposed to do and a very smart veteran receiver made them pay. It's like calling the Flames win in Edmonton a fluke win because Khabibulin misplayed the puck in front of his own net.
Cincinatti is clearly a very good team and Denver held them to 7 points. Pretty impressive IMO.
As for the rest of the season, the schedule is still brutal but it doesn't look as bad as it once did. The game Monday night is huge and they have to win it in my mind to get the rest of the critics on board. The way the Chargers are stopping people makes me fairly confident. But that dang Phil Rivers guy is unbelievable. Should be a great game.
Don't think my question was born of harsh feelings generated by your statement. I just wonder if people really know what's going on in Denver in terms of talent.
Bottom line, I value the conversation in this thread!

I wasn't shooting you or K-Train for that matter. I'm just curious as to why that thought exists.
I underrated them prior to this season as well. You might remember I predicted a 4-0 start and a 6-10 record to end the season. Clearly, that's not going to happen. I honestly thought they'd lose handily yesterday.
That defense is way better than I could've hoped...and I think the offense is just now starting to click a little. I think they have a lot more to offer on that side of the ball.
As the Broncos win over Cincy proved, never say never. Any team is capable of going 1-10 with a couple key injuries.
I'm in the surprised by the Broncos camp too, I expected them to be pretty poor actually. Somehow Orton isn't costing them games, which I fully expected, and in fact he's putting up pretty impressive numbers. McDaniels has that locker room charged up and I'm not sure they can't make a pretty serious run in the AFC.

Well those were both fluke wins, but they still count.

Disagree.
They were wins caused by the mistakes of the losing team.

The Bronco's are a good example of why you shouldn't put a great deal of stock in preseason games. In the early part of the pre-season they didn't look all that good, but through the process they seem to have built a good team and got the players on the same page. It's one thing to have talent, it's another to get your talented players to work together and fit with the other pieces to be a productive unit. San Diego supposedly has all sorts of talent on defence, how have they been thus far?
The key for Denver I think is going to be how they play the Chargers head to head. That win against New England helps neutralize the game San Diego won against Miami at home. But Denver draws Indy, whereas San Diego will get Tennessee for the other game where the two teams schedule differs. If the Bronco's can split their games with the Chargers, they should be able to beat Washington, Kansas City twice and their remaining game with Oakland. That puts them at 10 wins, and sets the bench mark for the Chargers to beat. If the Division record and conference record is the same...Denver will win out based on strength of schedule.

Rex Ryan and his loud mouth defence have got nothing on the wildcat. Man does Henne look like the real deal. Even when the refs tried to give the Jets the win with that ghostly pass interference call near the end. Miami is back in the race who would have thought that after week 3.
Pretty entertaining 4th quarter tonight sees the Dolphins crazy Wild Cat have enough time to punch the game winning TD with 7 seconds left. Henne looked really good for Miami. If he plays like that and with their run game they're far from finished.

I am very impressed with Henne, just playing smart football, not really forcing any passes and making strong throws when he does throw it. But it really comes down to the running game, if a team figures out how to stop the Fins they are probably in big trouble. I am also concerned with the Fins secondary. Lots of big passing plays are being given up. Nevertheless, it sure is nice seeing them right back in the race.
That NO loss seems to have totally unraveled the Jets who should have won this game going away.
The Jets were world beaters before and in their last two games have given the game away with some terrible play that makes about 0 sense.
And if by phantom PI call you mean clear cut hitting the receiver then I agree weird call. Why call PI when a defender clearly interferes with a guy? Isn't that call designed to give Denver and NE receivers a break when they drop balls?

Clear hitting a receiver, are you full on blind? They were hand fighting the whole way down the field, and in the last 5 yards there was no more than incidental contact of arms. The good news is you're in the mass minority seeing as every single analyst on sportscenter this morning talked about how terrible that call was.
Now we just need to beat San Diego in San Diego and that will give us some room for error for the next few games.
I much prefer Orton to cry baby Jay Chokler.
Brian Dawkins, what a beast. The one true leader on the team - fantastic pickup. Cannot believe the Eagles let this kind of guy go. I believe that he is the true reason for the Broncos success on defence this year. Also very simply, they havent had to defend alot of short fields. Its alot easier to play defence when you can take chances.
1 interception for Orton all season.

You were ready to run him out of town after the Cutler fiasco, does 5-0 earn him some goodwill?
And my Niners. That was ugly. I suppose that happens when you are rebuilding a team with young guys but the Falcons are a team you are going to need to be able to compete with if you are thinking playoffs.
By week comes at a good time - the Niners may have lost 2 LBs with concussion issues.
And Allen Rossum was cut to make room for Crabtree on the roster.

Just reading Peter King's Monday Morning QB, and there were some nugget's about the Vikings stadium situation. I remember we were discussing that last week, well, here they are.
Quote:
The Metrodome sits on the smallest footprint of any NFL stadium, contains only 200 club seats, has one traffic-clogged narrow concourse for the entire stadium, and 28 NFL cities have gotten a new venue in the last 20 years. Minnesota and the three California teams have not. At this point there have been no substantive talks between the state and the Wilfs, who plan to contribute about a third of the costs for the new stadium.
Oh and another fantastic nugget from that article is just above the stadium stuff, about Jared Allen. Another topic discused last week.
Quote:
What the Vikings got: Jared Allen, DE -- The league's best all-around defensive end has 21 sacks and three safeties in 22 Viking games. 6th round (187) John Sullivan, C -- First-year starting center on one of NFL's best lines.

If you look back, I was always ok with McDaniels. And I never liked Cutler - great arm no ability to win a game you need to win.
Then again I thought KC would be better
