It is still early, but the early returns are very promising for Ossoff. Plus if Ossoff wins then Trump will claim voter fraud tomorrow morning in a tweet so that'll be fun.

Just saw on CNN they were talking about the Trumps and Kushner running their businesses while Donny is President, and the one guy said, Trump has turned the presidency into a business interest. Thought that was a good observation.

that was big news initially, huge conflicts of interest... not to mention that the secret service has to protect his two boys on their business trips.

not sure how you'd be able to separate the benefits of being president and how that greases the wheels for every single business deal you do...

hey, but "Drain the Swamp" right...

So, when someone runs a field of more than 10 Republicans, gets disproportionate media coverage, is funded by outside interests, and fails to get 50% of the vote, that person is a loser? Hmm, we could have used that sage opinion last spring, Donald.

Kind of an odd electoral system in Georgia. It's a two party system, why do you need a run off? Just have primaries and then the election between a Democrat and Republican.

Also, wasn't Ossoff only expected to get about 45%? Coming close to an outright victory with over 48% seems like a good omen for the Democrats.

Does sound like it is over for O'Reilly

Quote:
Fox News is preparing to cut ties with star anchor Bill O’Reilly, according to people close to the situation, after revelations that he and Fox parent 21st Century Fox settled multiple sexual harassment complaints led to an exodus of advertisers from his show and mounting pressure on the network.

A final resolution on the fate of Mr. O’Reilly, host of the “The O’Reilly Factor,” could come as early as the next several days, the people said.

21st Century Fox, which will hold a board meeting Thursday, hasn’t finalized an exit agreement with Mr. O’Reilly, the people close to the situation said.

Since an April 1 article in the New York Times detailing $13 million in settlements paid to five women who worked on or appeared on Mr. O’Reilly’s program, pressure has been growing on Fox News, both internally and from activists, to remove him.

Mr. O’Reilly has denied any wrongdoing, saying he paid settlements to “put to rest any controversies to spare my children.”

On Tuesday, an attorney for Mr. O’Reilly said the host has “been subjected to a brutal campaign of character assassination that is unprecedented in post-McCarthyist America” and added that he has “evidence that the smear campaign is being orchestrated by far-left organizations bent on destroying O’Reilly and Fox News for political and financial reasons.”

The number Ossoff got last night is very likely his absolutely ceiling for what he can get, which suffice to say means he can't win a runoff. He outspent everyone else combined more than 2 to 1, and had the advantage of being the only name almost anyone knew in this race, which had like 15 other people in it. I suppose we shouldn't underestimate Trump's ability to be even less popular when the runoff happens which could bleed a few more points that Ossoff needs, but more than likely the Republicans will win the runoff.

California runs this way as well.

It's actually a much better system for a highly federally partisan system. In California you would disenfranchise republicans because their pick in a republican primary doesn't have a chance. However in a multi party primary the republican voters can pick the right most democrat and try to get them as one of the two nominees.

It forces the candidates to the middle which in the US would be a good thing. The tea party in red states would be much less powerful if instead of a republican and democrat running against each other it was a moderate republican and a tea party republican. The expansion of this process would help to reduce the partisan nature of US politics.

48% is close that it could be interesting. It all depends on turnout. Were 2% of the republican voters voting only for their candidate or were 100% voting republican. Will the close but not quite showing for Oosuf galvanize democrat or republican turnout.

538 has the runoff as a tossup:

But, now the Republican, Handel, will have to defend Trumps policies for the runoff. Also, this has brought a lot of attention onto this election, and may get a lot more people out voting, can't see the Republicans gaining any votes, but I could see Ossoff gaining more in the next few months.

Here's some quotes from Trumps trip to Snap on Tools to sign his hire American EO, even though he didn't believe that for his own businesses.

Whenever I read his words, I am always in disbelief that he is the POTUS

He sounds like a drunk uncle or a typical Trump supporter.

Quote:
“No administration has accomplished more in the first 90 days,” Trump declared in Kenosha, Wisconsin, where he toured tool manufacturer Snap-on before delivering his remarks. “That includes on military, on the border, on trade, on regulation, on law enforcement — we love our law enforcement — and on government reform.”
he told reporters nearly two weeks ago that he’s had “one of the most successful 13 weeks in the history of the presidency.”

Quote:
“We wanna get that approval,” Trump said. “And it just makes the tax reform easier, and it makes it better. It’s gonna make it steeper. It’s gonna be bigger, and that’s what we wanna do.”
Quote:
“We have the concept of the plan. We’re gonna be announcing it very soon,” he said. “But health care, we have to get the health care taken care of. And as soon as health care takes care of, we are gonna march very quickly. You’re gonna watch. We’re gonna surprise you. Right, Steve Mnuchin? Right?”
Quote:
“Infrastructure. Big infrastructure bill,” Trump said. “Probably use it with something else that’s a little bit harder to get approved in order to get that approved. But infrastructure is coming, and it’s coming fast.

David Frum is in my top 5 political sources. He consistently cuts through the left and right talking points of the day to explain how things really work. Even though he is a Republican he is a no holds barred critic of the current brand of Republicanism and Trump in particular (along with George Will). His bits in this piece from the Charlie Rose show are so scathing and acerbic even the host and other guests are having a hard time keeping straight faces. Little long at 30 minutes but a ton better than the Brady Bunch format of paid hacks spewing left or right talking points and yelling over each other.

Seems like the laziest president, Obama had visited something like 10 countries in his first 100 days. Trump spends a third of his time at his own properties.

At least Trump has time to manufacture fake scandals.

The binder of secret documents is at the center of the bizarre scandal created by what may be the most reckless lie President Trump has ever told. On March 4th, he tweeted, “Terrible! Just found out that Obama had my ‘wires tapped’ in Trump Tower just before the victory. Nothing found. This is McCarthyism!” The White House made several efforts to justify Trump’s claim, including using Devin Nunes, the chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, as a conduit for the documents, which allegedly offered some substantiation. A former Nunes staffer now working for the White House dug up the transcripts and shared them with Nunes. As Bloomberg View reported, earlier this month, Susan Rice, Obama’s national-security adviser, had used a process that allowed her to request that the masked names be revealed to her. Rice had to log her unmasking requests on a White House computer, which is how Trump’s aides knew about them. Nunes and the White House presented this as a major scandal. “I think the Susan Rice thing is a massive story,” Trump told the Times, adding, while offering no evidence, that Rice may have committed a crime.

It is now clear that the scandal was not Rice’s normal review of the intelligence reports but the coördinated effort between the Trump Administration and Nunes to sift through classified information and computer logs that recorded Rice’s unmasking requests, and then leak a highly misleading characterization of those documents, all in an apparent effort to turn Rice, a longtime target of Republicans, into the face of alleged spying against Trump. It was a series of lies to manufacture a fake scandal. Last week, CNN was the first to report that both Democrats and Republicans who reviewed the Nunes material at the N.S.A. said that the documents provided “no evidence that Obama Administration officials did anything unusual or illegal.”

I spoke to two intelligence sources, one who read the entire binder of intercepts and one who was briefed on their contents. “There’s absolutely nothing there,” one source said. The Trump names remain masked in the documents, and Rice would not have been able to know in all cases that she was asking the N.S.A. to unmask the names of Trump officials.

Nunes is being investigated by the House Ethics Committee because, in talking about the documents, he may have leaked classified information. But this is like getting Al Capone for tax evasion. The bigger scandal is the coördinated effort to use the American intelligence services to manufacture an excuse for Trump’s original tweet.
