...because after 500+ posts on the same topic, the discussion gets stale, and many posters quit following it. Then something changes and when you go back into the thread (using the "skip to first unread post" option you mention) you end up sifting through pages of posts trying to find where the updated new info starts.

Some people only log in if they have something to say. First unread may not work so well for them in that case as many people now access their favorite websites on more than one device.

Yeah those are fair points. Never thought about that.

I usually just go to the last page and go backwards until I find something new I was looking for, usually does me pretty well! I mean I guess I could have a lot more patience because I usually will let things build up a bunch so I have some content to read in spare time hahah.

Typically, once a topic goes beyond 3 pages, there is nothing new being discussed on that topic. It's just the same crap being regurgitated over and over, often times by the same people. I'd imagine a lot of CP'ers avoid the thread after that, and so when something 'new' happens regarding that topic, and they click the 'Skip to first unread post' button, they've still got 10-30 pages of crap to wade through.

Completely missed the point. Finding the first unread post is not the issue whatsoever. It's that the useful information and news in threads get buried between several pages of every Joe Flames fan's 2 cents.

And what if you don't want to read 150 pages? Should we read page 23-150 to get to a post on 135 you were interested in that should have gotten its own thread?
Going to the first unread post is pretty useless if you don't want to read all the stupid Drouin for Raymond, Colborne and third lolz Trade proposals.

You can't be serious, his post game statements to reporters are just that, post game statements to reporters and have absolutely no bearing.

I've looked from all directions, most with my homer glasses on, and I just can't bring myself to believe this an accident or due to wooziness. It just looked so...on purpose. I think he should get 10-20 games.

Lost in all this is a linesman with a history of getting in the way. He should get 25 games for being a nuisance.

Not sure how this applies here since the play was 50 feet from him at the time of the incident...

Then we need a link in the first post that jumps to the first post of commentary since the new information. Really at that point you may as well just lock the old thread and start a new one, but it would still be way better.
I just end up hitting "Last Page" and probably miss out on a ton, but I'm not spending all day wading through these things.

As long as the thread starter is willing to keep the thread up-to-date it doesn't become an issue, normally title gets changed with an indication [Post #] and also the first post gets editted with the new news. This has been pointed out earlier though I'm not really saying anything new.
I wonder when we'll hear something from the NHL... probably noonish I'm guessing.
