It is appearing ever more likely that the Flames will not be near the bottom three in the standings. It is amazing so many teams are dropping like rocks under the Flames. At the very least getting a pick in the top seven is going to land the Flames a key prospect in the re-tool. Just looks like anything outside the top seven is a crap shoot. Who knows. It will be interesting to see how it all shakes down.

Technically speaking, no team has yet to drop past the Flames. If the Flames can manage to not acquire any more points for the rest of the season then we will be drafting third or better (lotto depending of course).

As long as the Canes and Preds win as many games as we do in their remaining games in the season we can keep our #3 draft spot. I definitely think the Canes have a couple of winnable games coming up.

The Preds are going to need to beat the Flames or both of the Red Wings and BJs (because I do not think they will be beating the Hawks on Friday). Unfortunately I can see them falling past the Flames because of this but you never know how their terrible offense will match up against our terrible defense...

Those 3 wins in 4 games against Colorado, Phoenix, and Edmonton were devastating to our chances of finishing bottom (top) 3.

I see the Flames winning two of the remaining 6. Nashville and one surprise game against a team in full on "Relax for the Playoffs mode". We might even go 3-3

Actually, the Calgary Flames have never had a top 5 pick. The Atlanta Flames had 2 top five picks in their short history. They had the #2 pick in both 1972 and 1973.

Give me a break. I'm certainly stating the obvious, but by winning those games we are decreasing our margin of error and are putting our fate in the hands of other teams.

You'll be a lot more relaxed when you just accept the fact that we're not picking top 3.

This team is full of rookies going up against veteran tanking organizations. We had no chance.

For the team to be successful, the Flames need to focus on each play, each shift, each game and not look ahead.....

I've come to terms with our situation, knowing that the Flames will find a way to #### it up, but if he's calling me an idiot I'm going to defend my post.

Sorry, I wasn't challenging you. I'm saying it was stupid for Calgary to win those games.

Interesting to contrast the hope of making the playoffs in the past few years versus the tank job going on this year. Everyone seems way more down on the team's chances to lose than they did on the team's chances to win last year.

Ottawa completed their 1 year rebuild without picking top 5.

Of course, they had Karlsson... and Spezza...

I'm not too sure where I'm going here.

I don't get this point- "Veteran tanking organizations." How hard is it honestly to tank and lose the rest of the games in the season. It's not that we have a "rookie" organization trying to achieve, the flames would just rather not stoop to that level.

I hope we have a chance for Sean Monahan at this point. Win or lose, Flames have some brutal competition in the race for the bottom though. Carolina and Nashville are desperate for the bottom it seems. Edmonton might turn it around for a game or two.

I honestly had no idea it'd be this hard to finish at the bottom of the league. I never paid attention to the bottom feeding teams since my focus in the past were always on the bubble playoff teams. The Oilers really did make it look way easier than it actually is, which just goes to show how crappy they really were the last few years.

after watching the Oilers last night I'm pretty sure they will secure another top 3 pick. That organization is such a joke

We just can't seem to beat the oilers at anything but the BOA.

Right now it looks like the oilers are better at losing than us.
