I don't know if it's that jammies, more that Hank seems to get tunnel vision and became obsessed about this case. He was close so many times and he wants to finish this case off. I don't think it's about destroying any illusions, it's about obsession.

Call it what you will, it's not the behaviour of a man concerned with morality. Obsession leads one to committing evil deeds no less than any other distorted world-view. He lies, intimidates, uses physical violence, and goes far beyond the bounds of his legal authority, all in the name of proving that he was right. Just because he hasn't killed anyone doesn't make him one of the good guys, there are countless people alive who haven't killed anyone and yet are morally absent human beings.

True to Greek tragedies, I fully expect complete character destruction. Can't wait!

Key difference between Hank and Walt is that Hank is guided by a moral philosophy, that drug dealers are bad and catching them is good. Hank's methods, ends justifying the means, are certainly morally questionable and likely not excusable but his basic framework is still one of altruism. Hank's failing is that he's too personally associated with that philosophy and disruptions to it lead to violence (beating up Jesse) and self-conceit (his treatment of Marie). Ultimately, this makes Hank's quest personal whereby he values himself only by the achievement of his goals and above all else. The basic framework of justice becomes a personal enabler of Hank's self worth and not the other way around.
Walt is driven by pride and a sense that he's owed something in life. Walt doesn't have a larger moral framework for his actions beyond personal satisfaction, at whatever cost. Walt constructs his moral compass ad hoc as the situation presents itself. The conversation with Jesse talking about the murdered kid is a good example of that, it's the past, we can't do anything about it, therefore we cannot feel guilty. Ultimately, Walt made the sacrifices of crime and murder in order to satisfy his own need for personal gratification. Walt's moral descision making is basically the opposite of Hank's.
To say they're the same, is too simplistic. While Hank committed some reprehensible actions, namely beating up Jesse, they pale in comparison to what Walt has done. Hank is a flawed character but he isn't the equal and opposite to Walt.
As I type this I wonder about the part where Hank breaks down when he's stationed at the border because he's scared. How does that factor into this discussion?

^ CTRL+F his name, and just look for the questions Paul actually responds to. He seems to be a real cool, interesting guy from the sounds of things.

This show is the best thing that ever emitted from my tv screen!
This thread is great too! so many great comments and observations.
Not sure if it was this thread or the Dexter thread, someone commented how disappointing it was to watch BB before Dexter. I did my self a favor as result of that comment and watched Dexter first!....then Breaking Bad.
*The most gripping image for me was Walt (Flash Forward) walking up to his dilapidated house, fenced off and covered in tags with the youngsters skating in the pool in the back. all that scenery was incredible and made my mind spin!
Looking forward to looking forward to Sundays again~!

It only finds the 1st one. So I need to expand every bloody question to see if he replied? Sometimes I want to punch Reddit in the nuts for being stuck in 1998.
Apparently my settings were that every question isn't expanded.
Opened the AMA in incognito / private browser and I could finally read his replies.

In the walt/hank conversation at the end, what did hank mumble about "pinkman"? I could have sworn I heard pinkman.

Well I suppose we don't know for sure but the logical conclusion would be that it was Hank. When confronted with the tracker that's when Hank shut the garage door and lashed out at Walt.
I guess you need it spelled out for you flatly.

That sounds like as bad an idea as Tom Seleck as Indiana Jones.

in fairness who would have ever thought that Hal from Malcolm in the Middle, or Hammond Druthers from How I Met Your Mother would ever in a million years be as bad arse as Walter White?!

The logical conclusion? Why because it's the same GPS tracker that the DEA uses?
So far Hank has made it a secret to the DEA that he's investigating Walt, there's been no linkages in the plot to Hank and the GPS device, no scenes of Hank reviewing the GPS data or Hank anywhere near a laptop in his investigation in the garage, and there are many characters with motives to track Walt's movements such as Jesse, Skylar, Madrigal, etc.
So I don't think it's as cut and dry as you want it to be.
