There isn’t a coffee on earth that can kick start my day like waking up to news like this. First thing I checked.

Someone said he was taking the pass away lol. He literally stood there.
The funny part to me is how he skates hard to get the puck after it already went in the net.

And then he looks at the Kings players like "Why?"

For me this is on Nurse for casually drifting almost to the blue line (to put himself 5th guy high in his own zone?) with absolutely zero puck support and outnumbered (which he would know if his back wasn’t to absolutely everything)…. But What a ####ing pair these two are.

There’s so much wrong with this goal, it’s a chef’s kiss.

1) Bouchard a statue
2) Nurse coasting
3) Draisaitl hitting someone and instead of focusing on the puck, he decides another shove to the already fallen LA player is more important.

Selfish play all around.

It's crazy that Skinner is going to take all the heat given how bad their top defenders have played as well as Draisaitl and McDavid who have both been as one dimensional as ever.

This goal, and about 3 others last night, are a great example of what I mean when I say xG is a terribly flawed stat. I have tried to explain, over and over, how the stat can't measure time and space, and as a result, does not accurately reflect the real danger of actual chances.

In I think 4 of the goals last night, the shooter was in a location that was somewhat dangerous, and the 'expected' outcome would be maybe 20% chance of a goal. However, the stat can't measure time and space, and in each case, the shooter was able to walk in with his head up, look at Skinner, pick a spot, and get a perfect shot off. The ACTUAL likelihood of a goal, in each case was MUCH higher, because of how much time and space they had. But the stat can't measure that.

So the result (according to the stat) will be that the Kings got more goals than expected, and Skinner was terrible. But in reality what happened was that the Oilers defense gave 4 guys ALL DAY to walk in and pick a corner. And when you do that, today's shooters will score almost every time.

Don't be letting Connor off the hook either. He comes into the picture on the backcheck quite late. Byfield the Center should be his man, but he was likely hanging out at the Red Line hoping to be sprung free.

So you have Draisaitl going out of his way to take out his man but not get the puck out. Nurse admiring Draisaitl's hit, Bouchard backing himself into his own net but making sure he side steps it and twitches to fish the puck out of his own net, plus McDavid picking cherries in the neutral zone. Dallas Eakins would be proud.

McDavid on the PK? Is that something he did this year?

Got some good laughs from this game.

Nope - 4 seconds of PK time per game. But let's throw him out there in the playoffs!

Reeks of desperation

We need to bring back the DERP (Defensive error resulting in Points) stat we used when Hall was an Oiler. It would be kind of like the plus minus, but you could isolate the players directly responsible. So on that play Draisaitl, Nurse and Bouchard would all get +1 DERP.

The Oiler’s do not have a 1st, 2nd, 4th, or 5th round pick in the upcoming draft. The only reason they have a 3rd is due to compensation for the Holloway offer sheet. This team is hilarious.

This is a very promising start but I don't think we should get ahead of ourselves here as the Kings need to win 1/2 in Edmonton to take a stranglehold on the series.

I have a feeling the next game is going to be super close and likely go into OT. Winner of that OT wins the series.

I did think it was hilarious that they had McDavid playing PK, PP and Even and then when they were well and truly dead he rode the bench.

"Something to think about!"

clearly there was some messaging from the Oilers braintrust about this pregame

was listening to the first on the Oilers radio feed. when the Kings went on the PP for the first time, Stauffer started up with his 'I just have a feeling that if the Kings are going to go with a 5 F powerplay unit we just might start seeing McDavid on the PK here..." then it actually became hard to figure out what was transpiring with the Kings powerplay as it just became a McDavid watch until he got on the ice and then tracking him once he got out

I will say, watching the game yesterday that McDavid played with some fire. I'll give him that. But..."McDavid needs more ice time, lets play him on the PK too!!" That was dumb.

The inevitable reality though is that...he is surrounded by a bunch of really old scrubs and that he shouldn't go chasing waterfalls but rather stick to the rivers and lakes that he's used to.
