What a loser panel. Bob Mackenzie crying wasn’t on my bingo card. Go back to your cottage old man.

Didn’t watch the game but seeing the penalty summary. What were the 10 min unsportsmanlikes at the end of the game for on Mckenna and Ritchie? Doesn’t matter obviously, just curious.

Oh, I'm sure Canada will bring all to bear for the 50th annual WJC next year. That's a marquee event in Minnesota too.

The late penalty sucks. But it was a penalty. They got it right, 2 minutes. The earlier one was almost identical, and should have been 2 as well.
Reffing not great, but we gotta be more careful and not put ourselves in positions the ref can make those calls. It is hard to blame the refs for the loss in my eyes.
Was a good push late second and into the third. If we play 60 that way we win handily.

TSN has overhyped this tourney, it's their money maker. Heck we all watched this bad team.

Team Canada did themselves no favors with their terrible team selection, terrible coaching and undisciplined play, but that was hands down some of the worst reffing I've seen in a long time. Utterly terrible.

This is a very bad take.
The "smartest guy in the room" thing is the standard "200 hockey men" bull#### that Hockey Canada (and USA men's hockey a lot of the time) have done intermittently for decades. That is, instead of taking the best players, they try to meticulously curate a team of guys designed to fit certain roles, because you see it's an art form and you can't just "take the best players". We're very experienced hockey men, you see, and we know better because we have experience! It's the scouting meeting from Moneyball over and over again and people have rightly called out the emperor for having no clothes.
This isn't rocket science. You take the best hockey players, period. When you get to the last 20% of the roster and it's not clear if player B is substantially better than player A, then you can bring your judgment to bear. But this type of "we're going to have a gritty team" nonsense is how you get embarrassed. It happened in '98 with Shayne Corson and Rob Zamuner, it happened in '06 with Shane Doan and Kris Draper, and it's happened numerous times at the WJHC level too.

Do you really think they picked this team to try and prove a point and not to win a gold medal?
We can all admit, they made a bad move, but all of this smartest guy in the room stuff makes no sense. No one picked this team because they thought they were the smartest guy in the room. They picked it because they were people with years of experience in Canadian hockey who were hired to pick a team to win gold.
Dave Cameron did a terrible job. But he and the rest of hockey Canada didn’t pick this team as a flex.
Even if we picked all the consensus best players we still might’ve lost. Would we still say they were trying to prove they were the smartest guys in the room?
Defence wins championships but so does skill and we left skill at home. That has nothing to do with anyone thinking they’re the smartest guy in the room. It’s basic coaching philosophy.

You can pick a defensive team. It takes more discipline to play organized defense than offense. There's no room for error and absolutely you cannot lead the tournament in penalties
We've had great defensive teams shutdown the talented Russians in the past.

That speaks to coaching to me, as you know you'll be playing with IIHF officials, so yeah it should be hammered into the kids to play hard, and help them see where the line is.
This wasn't the best team, and they weren't put in a position to succeed either

I've never seen him do this. He's usually pretty even keeled. But this is new (low) level for him. It's sad to watch.
Now Duthie throws out the 'robbed' phrase.
Everything but a team that just wasn't good enough.
