I just started watching F1, but watching a race end behind a safety car is worse than a tie in a team sport. Especially on a track that's supposed to be the Temple of Speed. I don't think the results would have changed much, but at least it would be more intrigue. What was it like 6 laps with a safety car due to a stall?

Albon's appendicitis just killed Latifi's career.

You might argue that Latifi killed his own career.

Ya, but I'm sure he was holding out hope he'd hang on and get a new contract if he was consistent(not crashing). Getting spanked by De Vreis is the nail.

What’s crazy is that De Vries isn’t even guaranteed that seat. It sounds like Williams are keeping their options open.

The thing with Latifi is that he is very much attached to the millions of dollars in Sofina sponsorship that Williams currently receives.

Williams is a much better financial situation now, so they don't need Latifi as much as they did.

As others said, that was a terrible way to end a race. Why F1 can't figure out their pace car, red flag procedures, and end of races under green protocols is beyond me.

Anyway...lots of changes in the standings this week!! Top spot goes to Btimbit winning with a very solid 5/10 slotted and 8 Top 10 picks. 3 way tie for 2nd with DoubleK, Fuzz, and FurnaceFace going 5/10 and 7 Top 10.

But the race at the top has tightened ALOT as FurnaceFace closed the gap to just 5pts behind woob. TimSJ and Btimbit are tied for 3rd.

@Jepworth this was your 2nd missed picks, so your last carryover.
@FurnaceFace...remember you're at 2 missed...(everyone with red fill names is at 2+ missed weeks).

Spoiler!

That holding company sort of has control of VW at the moment, and the families have been strongly rumored to want control of Porsche back ever since they sold it in the aftermath of a failed attempt to squeeze their way into full ownership of VW a number of years ago.

The parent VW is likely to want cash for huge upcoming investments in electric vehicles, and selling Porsche shares either back to Porsche or to the family holdco is likely a good way to raise it, especially if they can get the $80 billion valuation they're talking about. I could see the families not wanting Porsche to splash out on a big acquisition right now, when they could be using that money to buy out another chunk of VW's stake.
Quoting myself, but the founder of Red Bull just committed to buying shares of Porsche in its IPO.

Edited to add: sounds like he pulled out when the F1 tie up got cancelled.

I love the dogwhistling from Lewis and Toto about how everything happening exactly as it should according to the rules this time

The funny thing to me is that this was largely an issue of incompetent and dare I say inexperience race control. Taking 65 seconds to deploy the SC, and then deploying it wrongly. I wonder how much Tsunoda's incidents last week played into this...maybe they hoped Ricciardo would get going again? Brutal race direction.

The best practice these days seems to be VSC until the leader is on the pit straight, and then to deploy the SC. Easy-peasy.

The great thing about VSC is that it has such a minimal impact to the competition. Cheap pit stops are a double edged sword - it can easily backfire, especially if VSC ends earlier than expected.

Ugh looks like I missed this week. I’m not sure why my picks didn’t get carried over though. I don’t think have missed more than 2 races

Not sure if this has been posted before, but a Reddit user has posted a couple cutaways of team garages with an amazing amount humour and detail.

Reddit posts:
Merc
Ferrari

I think he needs to refresh the Ferrari one with some the latest developments.

Amazing amount of detail in those...just awesome.

Love the Ferrari "Fuel Flow Bypass Valve" sign and "Fuel Storage No Smoking", possibly aimed at Russia.

Hahaha, "I am so Stupid"!!

With the Russian GP being cancelled and not replaced, this is going to feel like another summer break.

I was kinda thinking they should have scheduled a test to replace the GP.
