Evidence that the ST writers should no longer engage in anything that is drawn out further than a two-parter.

Now I understand why they announced the TNG cast was returning for season 3 of Picard while season 2 was only half over.
I did like Strange New Worlds.

Does someone at paramount realize how bad the state of star trek is right now to the fandom? I'm terrified of even starting Strange New Worlds.

With most things Star Trek I'll give it a try until it loses me.
STD lost me really, really early on and I still gave it a more than fair chance.
Picard is doing its absolute damnedest to lose me, but it has maintained a tenuous grasp on my attention.
Lower Decks bought them a lot of Goodwill from me, and they're going to need it because I'm going to give Strange New Worlds a fair shot, but it being even loosely associated with STD gives me serious concern.
What I dont really understand though is that Star Trek was always this kind of pokey old Sci-Fi show that garnered little respect within the industry itself but was always such a hit with fans that its rolled onward with a cult following.
You didnt need crazy spaceships or huge battles or top-notch special effects, you just needed good characters and good stories.
And now they've got all the money in the world in terms of budget but they've lost what initially endeared fans to universe. Its really weird.
Like...if Paramount had had some psychotic Executive in the mid 80s that threw unlimited money at TNG what would have happened?

STD actually gets worse and worse. And it commits the cardinal sin: It's boring.

I'll agree with that. Again, it goes back to interesting characters and stories and if they're boring all the 'pew pew' and lens flares in the Galaxy arent going to make up for that.

If we get a Pike line that's like "I wonder what Michael would do" I'm going to shoot my TV.

"We can't stop the drones from launching!" Uh, did you try a tarp?
Poochie dropping in for 30 seconds was bizarre.
An entire season of Star Trek, and we got 10 minutes in space. If you don't understand why that is a problem, you probably shouldn't be in charge of anything.

Okay, finished Picard.
I am conflicted.
It was almost what you'd expect from a Star Trek episode with some interesting concepts, character development and story...almost.
It had the bones there but it was as though it was written and directed by a disinterested child who doesnt know anything about Star Trek other than that he doesnt like it.
It was...preposterously close to actually being good but was the cinematic equivalent of a Gymnast leaping into the Abyss to grab the Trapeze-bar aaand missing.
There were some good parts, there were some really good parts. But they were frequently interspersed with "WTF?" and a whole lot of "That makes no sense" and/or "That is patently absurd."
So. Yeah. I think its fair to say that Picard didnt faceplant at the end, but it didnt stick the landing either.

On Picard, just a weirdly nonsensical ending, but at least all of Q's machinations got Picard a squeeze I guess. Overall the finale just seemed like a whole series on montages but I did like that they bought one of the most hated Characters, if you want to distract from what I would class as bad written, you can make it look better with heartfelt dialogues about love and bring back a hated character.
I liked SNW just because we automatically got what Discovery was missing, off bore crew members actually mean something and aren't just pieced of set dressing. Also AM is very good as Pike. I liked the distraction with Lt Kirk is on the way to the bridge. We did see a dead Samuel Kirk in the original series played by the Shat with a mustached who was James' brother. But they've indicated in this show that this Kirk is not that Kirk.
The T'Pring spock stuff was weird. But overall a good monster of the week episode. But the problem is that the story line has been done before over and over again through Star Trek, it would have been nice to start with something a bit more original. But overall a pretty strong start.

I thought one of the big mysteries this season was why Q was dying. That was left totally unanswered.
I was also expecting Picard and Q to kiss when they were face to face there...

Exactly. I mean...there have been episodes with Q and the continuum where it is conclusively stated that this is just a thing that doesnt happen.

I thought Picard mostly ended fine, certainly better than the last episode of season 1. The Borg stuff was a little hammy and they’ve set up ANOTHER galaxy ending threat that only our heroes will be able to stop for season 3. It stuck the landing with the Q / Picard relationship, which was important. Some other parts worked a little less well. But overall not terrible, which is high praise for live action Trek right now, ha.
SNW first episode was solid, excited to see where it goes.

Yeah, after having six and Raffi making out, I really expected them to double? Triple down with a sloppy makeout session between Picard and Q. I mean with these writers who ever knows.

I'm fuzzy, but wasn't there a civil war between the Q's in Voyager where they talked about Q's dying in it? I know that Q's were wounded in that war. Also wasn't there a Q that killed himself as well?
