I absolutely love this. The ability to predict outcomes for both players and teams is what has made the MLB so boring to follow.
You get your gem players from the bargain bin that turn it around, but other than that the game has become so perfectly predictable right down to at bats that the vast majority of the league's fans go into a season with "Well, I'd love to believe but the stats day we won't make the playoffs and they're mostly right".
Stats are cool, but such a killer in terms of why people became fans of sports in the first place.

Randomness isn't much fun either. There has to be something in between.
Between Trump getting elected President and this, the universe is pretty clearly trying to tell us to stop arguing about multiverse theory and just give in already.

From a fan's perspective I'm not sure the MLB is entirely like that, although rapidly moving in that direction.
However, as far as the management of players in the MLB is concerned, there is no doubt that statistical analysis has taken precedent over heart and soul when it comes to how players are ranked, and as a result baseball has indeed turned into a boring sport with falling attendance levels. Very rarely do you see a story like this in the MLB.
Then again, that is what makes hockey so great.

Well I think you went too far the other way in saying the NHL is randomness, the NHL is probably the closest to the in between you seek out of all the professional spots.
It's quite predictable in many ways, like knowing if your team is likely to be contending for a cup, battling for a playoff spot or battling for a high pick, with advanced stats guys chipping away at providing more reliable info with each passing season.
Even just those three categories gives enough solid understanding of what a season may look like, with a decent amount of unknown "randomness" and outliers to make things fun to actually follow and not just understand who will likely win all the time.

Hopefully we will see the Flames adopt the fast, up tempo, quick transition, whatever else you wanna call it, style employed by Vegas. Make it fun to go back to the Dome again. In hindsight under the GG system I should have taken a newspaper to read at Flames games.

Same with the NBA, but that league is driven by singular star players instead of numbers. Pretty boring league to watch when you know who's going to win based strictly on if Lebron James or Stephen Curry is on the team

Should MAF or Engelland hoist the Cup?
MAF is their MVP, but Engelland is a beauty and it kinda seems like he's the de facto captain.

IMO, at least thus far everything has gone right for VGK, both by design and happenstance. They drafted a bunch of guys who would be considered reclamation projects or disappointing prospects who might still be on the cusp of being good. Lots of teams pick up guys like Karlsson thinking they can turn it around or blossom and it only works out a few times (look at, say Edmonton trading for Strome, or Calgary taking Setoguchi). But for VKG they pretty much all worked out. The shooting happened, to galvanize the team. Gallant became available through a dumb decision- a perfect coach for them. Fleury, who's been a really good goalie, but not elite IMO, had a career season. Any backup goalie can have a stretch of really good games (see Johnson, Chad). And for VKG, each and every one of their several backups did just that. For whatever reason, this team just came together really well.

Winnipeg lost for the same reasons they'd lost previously to Anaheim, and for the reasons they missed the POs. It just took them longer. They took bad penalties, their goaltending was inferior to the opponent, and their defencemen didn't handle pressure that well.
They can take comfort in the major step they took from previous seasons, and the fact that their core is young aside from Wheeler and Buf. They look OK contract-wise. They have to re-sign RFAs Trouba, Morrisey, Lowry, Morrow, Tanev and Hellebuyck (the latter with Mason still making over $4M). Their only big UFA decision IMO is on Stasny. In doing these moves they have to keep in mind that Wheeler, Laine, Connor and Myers are coming up the next year.

The Jets will almost certainly become a cap-team entering the 2019–20 season, which will be interesting given the internal budget constraints by which they have operated up to this point.

Looks to me more like their skill players didn't produce offensively. Laine, Connor, Ehlers MIA in the series.

Thats a bit of a double-edged sword though, Vegas forechecks relentlessly which was keeping their top players on their heels.
Its hard to produce offensively when you're being constantly stifled.
The best defence is a good offence and thats what Vegas do, they just come at you in waves.
