Uhhhhh, Slavin is their number 1. He plays 4 minutes more than Hanafin on the top pairing.
Hanafin is young, so that may not always be the case, but anyone who's watched a single Carolina game this year knows Slavin was their number 1 defenseman.
Hanafin's 18 odd minutes is closer to the time Michael Stone and Hamonic got than Brodie or Hamilton, forget about Giordano's 24 minutes altogether.

What indication do we have that BT is on a shorter leash?

None. For all we know the whole organization is on board.

If they’d stop giving coaches three year deals over and over to just fire them after two they’d have enough money to build a new rink.

I actually don't know what to expect right now if Peters is hired because of his history. I would have to lower the expectations and that's what i pretty much stated. But you have to know that Treliving has made moves throughout the rebuild of this team to make it as a mediocre bubble team. So by hiring Peters, we may expect what his records are in Carolina, which is mediocre at best. If the team starts out like a lion and continues through most of the season, awesome! Treliving's leash should be a lot shorter with each coaching change.

The portion about discipline was interesting. Taking fewer penalties would certainly help the Flanes win.

I remember at the start of the rebuild, with Hartley, the Flames were one of the least (if not THE least) penalized teams in the league. It was so nice for a change.
Then the Wideman incident happened, and once again we were the referee's bitch.

Key improvements the Flames MUST make next season:
1. Better positioning in the offensive zone to better capitalize on the corsi shot selections. Decrease the one and done high danger crap and generate better secondary scoring chances. And make the goalie flippin move.
2. Show up 60 minutes a game. Aka be more consistent.
3. Improve the PP
4. Improve player deployment and better in game strategies. Also adapt on the fly.
5. If something doesn't work, don't keep using it! (Brouwer)
6.Mental Fragility, should be priority #1.
7. Use the players talents more. Push the pace of the game. If players cannot keep up find players that can.
Can Peter's eliminate at least half of this list? I think he can with the right assistant hires.

What kind of evidence are you expecting to see?
This is his second coaching hire. Do you believe he can survive getting this wrong?

Assuming this is true, my ultimate reaction to this news is about the same as when they hired glue gun. Not the “sexiest” hire, but I will try and be open minded and will e will seewhat happens.
I would assume that if he is gone in two years, there will be about 20 moving trucks in front of the dome offices as they would be clearing out everyone and really blowing it up.

I think you are free to cite the Darren Haynes article now.
And common sense.

That's really unlikely. I mean even Gulutzan got this team playing roughly 50/50 hockey most of the time, which isn't bad enough to get you fired quickly. No matter what some say, we have a pretty good roster that should be at least flirting with the playoffs even with mediocre / below average coaching.
Plus there hasn't been a midseason coaching firing in this organization since Greg Gilbert. It just doesn't seem to be something they do in Calgary.
Oh, and firing Peters and Treliving would mean paying for three head coaches and two GM's until the end of the season. Considering that neither Sutter or Lombardi would come cheap, I really can't see the organization throwing that kind of money at it.
I will be really surprpised if the next head coach doesn't stay for minimum of two seasons.

A shorter leash implies those above him are keeping him under closer control than before. That’s different from saying he likely needs to get this hire right
Do we have any indication that Burke or others are keeping him under closer control?

I have reached acceptance with it at this point, all I can do is hope BT comes out looking like a genius here. I don't care who is the coach as long as we have some success.

Like DeluxeMoustache said, common sense.
If Peters comes in and looks like yet another flame out, do you honestly think management above Treliving wouldn't start becoming far, far more involved in decisions, Jiri?

As soon as they feel like they need to be more involved is the day they should just fire him
So no I don’t agree.
Again the statement was he’s on a shorter leash meaning those above him are taking more control. I don’t see any evidence of that

Nice dig from Haynes.

So while the fan base is up in arms, thinking they have some bit of incriminating intel on Peters that the GM doesn't have. Sorry to break it to you, but you don't.

Anyway, the possession style of play bothers me a little but other things about Peters' team in Carolina sound great. Lowest penalties taken in the league, lowest shots against and increased ice time for young players.

Especially if the rumour the owners wanted Sutter are true. Don't think Peters would be coming here if BT was on a short leash if that is the case.
