Either the start of the 2017-18 season or after he plays his 160th NHL game, whichever comes first. Right now, he has played 95 NHL games.
So we're not quite at the 'Baertschi-Impasse' where he has to make the team or face the waiver-wire...
It's really tough to say what his true value is, but it's going to be high-risk, high-reward.
There's no denying he's a great prospect. He's always reminded me of a young Tanguay... lots of skill but not a whole lot of drive. I'm sure there's more to his game than that, but we've had enough floating skill players over the years. We need more guys like Bennett & Ferland who combine tenacity and skill.
I could see him going to the Nucks or Avs.

I would classify Drouin as being a very tenacious player at times.
Look at the sequence around 1:10 in this clip to see what I mean:
Throughout this clip, you him being both very elusive (akin to Gaudreau) and also sometimes a bit hard-nosed and physical. Definitely not quite like Bennett, that's for sure, but he is not Baertschi in that regard.
If that doesn't convince you, look at how much of a puck-hound he is (like Bennett) all over the ice (not just in the offensive zone) in the NHL.
I would call him fairly tenacious, not afraid of contact, skates hard out there (don't really see him floating around much) and is a much better skater than Baertschi (doesn't fall over and get pushed off the puck if someone breathes on him).
You can easily see why he was a third overall pick, and why Yzerman intends to hold out for a good package. I made the comment earlier about Kylington and that he should be a relative 'untouchable'. I think that because Kylington's value is NOT that of Drouin, but he has the ceiling to get his value close in the long run. Including him as an + in a trade may drastically shift the balance of that trade towards Tampa, as I would assume the meat of the trade would be costly already.
We all see what Gaudreau can do and how he impacts the game out there. It is worrisome that Drouin hasn't cracked the lineup regularly, and no, Tampa doesn't have this amazing depth in their lineup that keeps a guy like this out of it.

Looking at both of those clips reminds me of a poor-mans hybrid of Gaudreau + Bennett. Not saying anything bad, but Drouins potential is high and will take a lot to get him.

Sportsnet has the "Drouin could be traded in the next 24hrs" report on the app.
Blues or Wild are my guess. I wonder if Hudler's 2pt return was enough for Yzerman to consider pulling the trigger on a package of him, prospect and a pick? Doubt it but one can hope!
It seems more likely that Rattie is scratched because there isn't a spot for him in the lineup. He was called up on Monday and played one game on Tuesday, which Stastny missed due to injury. Stastny is back tonight and Rattie is out.

Told tonight Drouin trade talks escalated. Were serious to start week, at significant level today. We'll see tmrw

And to clarify, not saying Drouin is 100% traded tomorrow, but talks are at a point where there's a good chance. We shall see.
Blues lost again tonight. Wouldn't be surprised to see them shake up the team a bit.

What has Drouin done to demand a young guy playing in the NHL and two really good prospects? The guy has played with the best Tampa has to offer and hasn't proven he's a NHL player yet. Big question marks still dog this kid.
I'm not in love with many of our prospects these days but Kylington is a guy I wouldn't move at all. For him to be playing as well as he is offensively in the AHL at 18 is remarkable and getting tutored by a great coach of both the mental side of things, and the d-zone. Especially in a system that activates the defence as much as Calgary, I think he is going to be a big offensive contributor from the blueline in 2-3 years once he rounds out his game.

I wouldn't say it's a major overpayment. I suppose it has potential to be but they could select 3 guys that never turn into much either. If Drouin is what you hope he's a legit top 6 forward. He comes with risk too but I think Yzerman would decline that offer.
Ya I have high hopes for Kylington as well. Exciting potential.
I would do this deal. Drouin has been a late bloomer everywhere he plays but has insane hands and hockey IQ. Monahan and Gaudreau are established young stars and Bennett is a star in the making. The ability to have 2 great youn centers and pair them with 2 amazing playmaking wingers would be amazing. It continues to push the rebuild forward and helps the team today

True but there are a ton of question marks on all the Flames assets going the other way. None of those players are proven. Granlund is playing in the NHL but not doing much. The prospects are good but both Porier and Jankowski are older than Drouin and have done less. The D prospects have not done much either.
It is a lot to give up in terms of youth but getting a top 3 pick by giving up a late 1st, a 2nd and a 3rd is pretty good value for the Flames
