Article about some sound effects from the movie including the voice of TR-82:
Quote:
The rathtar isn’t the only way Acord’s voice made it into the film. As it turns out, he’s also the voice behind FN-2199, known more widely on the Internet as TR-82.” “Occasionally, you’ll just be working and, ‘We need this guy to say this right now’ and we’ll go record it. That’s another way; it’s on the spot. You find somebody that can do it, and you do it. That’s how FN-2199 happened. Originally, it was J.J. His voice was a temp placeholder, and he wanted to replace it. It went through four other actors, I think, before it landed on my performance and he was okay with it. It’s a really funny thing to me. It’s a cool scene; the stunt actor, Liang Yang, really did all the hard work in that scene, but it’s fun to be part of. I didn’t even know it was a thing on the Internet until Pablo Hidalgo emailed me and asked if he could post on StarWars.com that I was the voice of FN-2199.”
Pretty cool how the internet took this and ran... and Star Wars embraced it. FN-2199 going to be showing up in some video/board/card games?

Now that Star Wars: The Force Awakens is beginning to make its way out of theaters we can look ahead to home video release. Today our friends at Jedi News stumbled upon some interesting info on the listing for the film on Blu-Ray.com. According to the site, it will be a three disc set, including 2 Blu-rays and a DVD, along with Google Play and iTunes digital copies. They speculate that this could mean that we'll be getting at least one disc fully devoted to bonus features. You can see a screenshot of the listing below:
The agreement between Disney and Netflix is supposed to see a movie show up on Netflix 8 months after it leaves first-run theatres, but the last few have been a lot faster than that.
Inside Out was released in mid-June and was on Netflix in late January (just over 7 months from release). If Star Wars follows the same schedule, it should be on Netflix in late-July or early-August.

4 weeks (April 1) until The Force Awakens is on Digital HD. Blu-ray and DVD on April 5.
Seems really soon to me...Am I getting old to the point where time flies by really quickly or are they releasing stuff on home media much sooner these days?
I thought so to, I remember waiting what seamed like forever for ROTJ to come out on VHS. Turns out I was right. It hit the theatres May 25 1983, but didn't hit VHS until February 1986! For $80, which must be like $3000 in today's dollars... http://nmycon.tripod.com/SWHomeVid/vhs_rotj.html
I wonder if Disney will do that weird thing with Star Wars where they lock a film in "the Disney Vault" for 20 years....probably not with today's technology, would just encourage piracy.

Probably a little of both. This is about 3 and a half months after release, which seems to be about standard now.
If they waited too much longer to release the Blu-Ray, they'd be starting to get too close to the Netflix release, which should be sometime this summer.

Yeah, still kind of in theaters but losing steam and then DVD and then those slow down and then Netflix.
Its all about revenue maximization.
Economically, I would love to know how much overall revenue this movie generated.
