Kind of regehr trade like. Every 30 minutes or so another piece leaks that makes it a little worse.
Just my opinion but the jays should not be giving up blue chip young arms for anybody who isn't a good pitcher with lots of team control left. Castro and Hoffman are both really good young pitchers. Am not a fan if they are both involved and there's no salary relief.
Tulo is great but Jays take on 50 million in payroll and give up 2 blue chip arms for him... Not such a fan.
At the very least AA better finally do it right and get some pitching if he's blowing prospect capital on older players again. All or nothing

According to ZiPS, this is how their expected WAR is projected
ZiPS WAR and salaries for Jose Reyes. RoS 15: 0.9/$7 mil, 2.0/$22 mil, 1.8/$22 mil, $4 mil buyout taken.
ZiPS WAR and salaries for Troy Tulowitzki: RoS 2015: 1.7/$7 mil, 2016 4.7/$20 mil, '17 4.1/20, '18 3.7/20, '19 3.2/20 '20 2.8/14, 21 2.4/15
Now that breaks down to Reyes WAR value being nearly 20 million dollars less than he'll be getting paid. On the other hand, Tulo's WAR value is projected to be $40 million dollars higher than he'll be paid.
So basically there's a 60 million dollar value difference between the two players over the remaining contracts. Castro and Hoffman would have to pan out in a serious way and not be just fringe reliever or 5th starter to make up the difference. The Jays are getting the better end of this deal by far. This is almost as good as the Lawrie for Donaldson trade.

Hoffman and Castro gone. Not a huge fan but Tulo is pretty awesome. As has been the case for years now, this teams needs pitching.........badly. Has to be another deal or two in the works.
Get the feeling Jose is going to be moved. No rumor or anything, just my spidey senses tingling.

I wouldn't be shocked if both Bautista and EE get dealt for a couple good pitchers. It seems like the Jays are getting rid of the attitude problems one by one, first Lawrie, then Lind, now Reyes. Bautista won't be far behind if things keep up.

Wow. I hope AA knows that Tulo doesn't pitch. Last thing we need is more offense for a team that has arguably the number one offense in American league. Great pitching wins playoff games (9 times out of 10)

The Jays have the best offense in baseball by a long shot.
They also have the worst pitching in baseball by a long shot.
Maybe they'll win games 20-19 now.

I'll miss that Reyes spark for sure, but excited to see what Tulo can do! Hopefully the rotation can pull it together, or there are more moves that AA has in the chamber in regards to that. I just hope Stroman, Sanchez and Norris are here to stay and aren't included in future deals! Glad to see, for now anyways, that the Jays haven't mortgaged the immediate future in those 3 for a long shot this season. The next few days should hopefully be pretty interesting!

AA knows what the Jays need. But we don't know the cost of any of the pitchers available, if that cost is too ridiculous making a move that improves the bullpen and overall team defense will help improve pitching to a small degree. And while the Jays score a ton of runs adding another .300 hitter that can bring guys home, more runs are never a bad thing especially when Bautista and Encarnacion are only hitting .234 each so its hard to bank on them in clutch moments.

The Jays also traded Jesus to the Rox
RHP Jesus Tinoco AKA nothing much
The way I look at it is Tinoco + 1/2 Castro's value for Hawkins, Reyes + Hoffman + 1/2 Castro's value for Tulo.
Huge win. Almost as good as the Donaldson trade.

Hoffman being used here instead of as the centrepiece in a trade to get an arm is going to seriously chap me if it's true.

Dont be fooled by the best offense in the lead. Jays pile up runs when it doesnt matter. Cant win the close game.

Where does the offence rank on the road, when you remove the home ball park effect?

Good trade, Reyes had to go.... Nice guy but he is no longer able to play short stop.
Jays obtained a really good short stop.... This addressed a huge weakness.
However, they most definitely need a starter if they want to have any chance this year.

Sure... just like how Boston got rid of that uppity Hamilton kid. Everyone praises Reyes as a teammate so don't go throwing shade.

I don't know much about the dressing room attitude problems but if you guys had a choice to trade one of EE or Jose Bautista who would you trade?

I like this trade if only for the vastly improved defense of Tulowitzki. Offensively, it's a slight improvement, mostly in terms of some more power, but I loved Reyes on the base paths.
Hawkins is a veteran arm who can contribute some middle innings, which is what the Jays desperately needed. I'm pretty confident in Sanchez and Osuna in late innings, but almost nobody else has stepped up in the bullpen this year, and both Loup and Cecil have taken major steps back.
I still think we need another high quality bullpen arm, and obviously we need a big time starter. HOWEVER, the only thing that will get this team in the playoffs is how the remaining starters do. Buehrle has been great, but we know that he can have some down periods throughout a season too, and I'm worried it's coming up soon after his last start in Seattle. Estrada has been a solid #3 starter who work his way through games fairly effectively. Dickey has been a hard luck loser for the last couple of months, and with some better defense behind him he's bound to get some more wins. Hutchison's will just have to start the majority of his games at home the rest of the year for him to be successful. There are some decent starters there to work with, but the staff still lacks an ace, and to win the big games you need that ace starter. I would love to get David Price to fill that void. Perhaps you see Encarnacion moved in a package to get that starter. I don't think Bautista goes anywhere because despite his poor average and sore shoulder, he's done an amazing job this year at the plate.
All in all, I hope there are more moves, otherwise this will just be a piece to build around for next season...like all Blue Jays moves, "next year we'll get 'em".

EE. Great bat when he's hot, but he still often goes through cold stretches. Isn't doing a great job of protecting Bautista much anymore, hence a lower average for Bautista. A well below average defender, especially at this point in his career, so he's really only good as a DH going forward. Bautista is still one of the best right fielders in the game, despite a sore shoulder, and has learned how to be an effective RBI man in all situations.
