We're at the point that SportsNet channels basically show the same programming. I'm not surprised that Shaw dropped the East channel. There's really no point.

While it's probably a condition of their broadcasting license, I don't see why the CRTC wouldn't approve a change to more effectively show sports in this country.

If it were me I'd propose something like:

SportsNet 1: This would show the major team sports. (Jays in the summer, highest viewed hockey games etc)

SportsNet 2: This would show the individual sports (golf, tennis, auto racing, Tour de France)

SportsNet 3: the aggression sports (MMA, WWE, boxing, *sigh* poker)

SportsNet 4: focus on the lower level sports, Jr. Hockey, CIS, pro & junior curling (not Brier, ToH, Worlds) national championships

SportsNet 5: International sports (soccer, rugby, cricket, etc)

SportsNet 6: highlight, highlight, highlights! Focus on highlights/analysis of major sports showing scores/short clips of secondary sports

Then when major sports have multiple games rank them in terms of predicted viewership and show them on your various stations. For example Leafs game is on SN1, Habs SN2, Islanders SN5.

I think there would be a GREATER focus on teams across the country this way. If U of T's basketball team sucks why would they want to show that? However St FX @ CBU is always a great game. The commitment would be to the league/level and showing the best of those leagues would show teams from across the country.

I can't be the only one who is irritated by John Shannon? What an obnoxious, annoying analyst. I hate how he always talks over the hosts so much, that I actually change the channel during intermissions.

If Sportsnet keeps him around in the same role next season, I will have to keep doing that.

Healy is a class by himself. But after him, Shannon might be the next worst. No, probably third behind Francis.

Nick Kypreos @RealKyper
So happy to hear @CHLHockey and Memorial Cup are going no where for the next 12 yrs! @Sportsnet

Damien Cox @DamoSpin
Sportsnet to announce long-term deal with CHL that will include Memorial Cup and Top Prospects Game coverage for years. The empire grows.

Damien Cox @DamoSpin
The bidding process was tough. But CHL stayed home on Sportsnet, and for the next 12 years. So happy to hear this got done.

Jeff Marek @JeffMarek
Sportsnet to broadcast more than 50 CHL games/season + CHL playoffs + Memorial Cup starting in 2014/15 season.

No, however superfarmer seems to bash anything to with Sportsnet, so I assume he thinks he can do better.

CHL lands a twelve year TV deal worth who knows how much money. Players continue to get paid $50/week for the 100th straight year.

Isn't there restrictions on this so the players remain college eligible?

I think I could do better than some of their personalities. Sportsnet is a 2nd tier product as well as a gutless company. They have never invested in putting on a good channel and have been satisfied just to put out a bare bones product just to say they can do whatever Bell does. Such a classy company that once they obtain the NHL rights they have major cutbacks in their radio with small guys paying the price just because of this lame Toronto rivalry they would spend billions just to one-up Bell.

Ya it must suck to get a free year of college for every year playing in the CHL. This isn't NCAA Football and Basketball where they are making billions of dollars every year
