Has Reinhart pulled his game out of the ashes enough this year to warrant a quick cup of coffee near the end of the season?

I would like to see a rotation of giving various guys a stint and taste of NHL hockey.
Anyone and everyone who has a chance of being an NHLer.

Aliu scores the first of the game. Assisted by Martin. Heat lead 1-0 in the first.
EDIT - Now the Marlies respond. 1-1.

Heat now down 3-1 with 4:00 left in the 2nd. They have carried the play in the period, but gave up the only goal so far. Baertschi is nearly invisible, but the puck seems to follow Reinhart around.
Commentators speculating that if the Heat lose this one, that will be it for the Heat's playoff hopes.
Brust is in the net now, I didn't see the 3rd goal so I can't comment on Taylor. Can't say the Heat look good unfortunately.

Heat have tied up 3-3. Nemisz and Street with some good work down low and Street scores his 15th of the season by batting a rebound in out of the air
Edit: Baertschi scored the 2nd goal on the PP. I was away from the tv and didn't see it.
Edit 2: Baertschi's goal was a quick shot off an offensive zone faceoff after Horak poked the puck towards him. Nice quick shot.

I'm pretty happy with what I'm seeing from Reinhart. He has great awareness on the ice. He sees when other players have left their lane and he immediately fills it and gives the D an option for breakouts etc. Like I said earlier, the puck seems to follow him around, which happens when a player has good positioning.
Best player on the ice since I've been watching.

Sven gets shut down on a nice shot from the slot on a 2 on 2.
Then Brust makes a great save on a cross ice pass.

Abbotsford loses 3-4 in OT. Would have loved to see them get the extra point since they were pushing hard in the 3rd to tie it up but can't fault the effort in the last 20 minutes.
This hole Horak/Baertschi chemistry the last few games is something else. If they can bring this to the NHL, the Flames are going to have a heck of a C/LW combo. They just keep finding each other and setting the other up beautifully. Horak is looking like he's getting more natural (and stronger at fighting off a guy hanging on him) moving the puck in the playmaker position and setting up Baertschi to just put them in.

Is Horak back playing centre?

He's been playing everywhere. Centre, Left Wing, they've thrown him on the right side a couple times as well. Ward looks to be getting him in almost every forward position in a few different situations and letting him learn and try things out. They are testing him pretty hard in the AHL and it seems like Ward wants him to be ready in all situations when he does go back to the NHL.
It would be my guess the Flames would utilize him as a centre since they don't have alot in that position. Plus, his preferred wing position is left and so if him and Baertschi are together, they both can't play left wing and I can't see putting either on the right side as they both have left shots.

Horak's actually been playing on the right side for quite some time. In the last home series he played RW. Unless he changed on the road, but I'm not sure.

It looks like Cundari will be joining the Heat. Is this what the Heat have been missing since Brodie was recalled.
Quote:
Cundari is expected to report to Calgary’s AHL affiliate, the Abbotsford Heat.

The Heat's defensive corps right now consists of 4 rookies (MacKenzie, Seigo, Lamb, Matczak), Breen and Cundari are both third year pros, and Carson and Callahan are both AHL vets.
Very very young back end right now. This isn't necessarily a bad thing either. While they've been getting walked over for the last month, it's been great for their development. MacKenzie and Seigo are definitely a couple of guys to keep your eye on next season. While I haven't got a chance to watch Seigo yet, I've heard very good things about him. Could be an impactful pick up for the Flames.

I like the sounds of this from Cundari:
Quote:
“As a player, I’m pretty aggressive,” said the Woodbridge, Ont. native. “I like to play an aggressive, in your face game. The last few years, I’ve really been working on my defensive game. I pride myself on being really good – really feisty– in the defensive zone.
“I can be a pretty nasty S.O.B. back there...And aside from the physical game, I love to jump up in the play.”
Listed at five-foot-10, 200 pounds, Cundari realizes people might jump to conclusions about his NHL potential due to dimensions.
“I don’t see myself as undersized,” he said. “I see it as being an advantage – as it being beneficial to me.
“Being a smaller guy means I’m more agile, more explosive. I’ll be fast. I’ll be up in the play. It really benefits my game. So for me, I’ve played with the `he’s too small” chip on my back my whole career.
“So to me, it means nothing when a guy says I’m too small. I feel like I can get the job done.”

I spoke with Steven Seigo yesterday morning and he compares his style of play to Dan Boyle. He's not wrong. He's short in stature, but is very good at moving the puck.
Cundari's also in Abby. Saw him at the rink today introducing himself to everyone. He's short, but he's a big dude.
It was an optional/injured guys practice this morning. Bouma and Byron were out there. Bouma didn't have any pads on, just a track suit, but he was flying through the drills. His leg looks like it's gotten 100% better from when I saw it. Byron had his full equipment on and his shot is just as good as it was before. Hopefully he can get a few games in before the end of the season.

Ben Walter has reached the 50-point plateau in his past 6 consecutive seasons. Only three active players have done that: Darren Haydar, Mark Mancari and Ben Walter.

According to Ward Breen's done for the season. Separated shoulder. He'll be needing surgery.
This sucks big time. As far as I'm concerned, with the way the Flames are going on the back end, Breen is a sure lock as a #5-6 defenseman next season. If not for his injury, I'm sure he'd be in Calgary instead of Carson. Feel bad for the guy. His opportunity to make the club is right now and he goes and gets hurt.
