Austria beat Sweden 2-1 it's going to be a crazy fight for the 2nd spot vs Sweden and Ireland now. Too bad we lost to Germany despite being the better team and only played 0-0 in Kazakhstan ... but hey, a win vs Sweden is pretty nice. Also, Marc Janko's goal

Ireland in Brazil = awesome party
Austria in Brazil = where can we go hiking?
Sweden in Brazil = blondes on the beach

I'm not sure either of those were yellow cards...especially considering they were the first two fouls he had committed all game.
Reputation yellows for sure for Balotelli.
Balotelli was a disgrace out there and he should be ashamed for the way he wore the Italian jersey. I don't care if they were his only two fouls if you watched the game he was crying every time he got touched, he's a strong young athlete he should stay on his feet a lot more. He was constantly whining at the ref. I'd be sick of him too if I was reffing! His two fouls that cost him two yellos where really stupid fouls, the first he was so late with his body check from behind that it was clearly an attempt to hit a player. The second he got his hands all over the face of the Czech defender when he knew he couldn't win the ball.
Back to the game, me being Czech, it was very frustrating that we have no finish. We should have won that game long before balotelli got sent off. The Italians ended with what zero shots on goal. We needed the win and we got a draw, we are pretty much screwed for second unless we somehow win out and with 3 of our last 4 on the road including at Italy and Bulgaria. Denmark has an easy finishing schedule as well. I actually expect them to take second.

why do you think he was a disgrace? Sounds pretty standard Italian to me.
I'm sure if they knew ahead of time how bad he was gonna be, they wouldn't have used that feed. I am curious to know if they questioned pulling the plug on him and using Gerry from the studio at some point during the game.
It was that bad.
Wow, I'm sad I missed it, that would have been hilarious!

I was half expecting the Czech coach to call up Jan Koller. Every time the Czechs are in trouble because they cant finish the answer has always been Jan Koller.

If you thought this season would have a happy ending, you haven't been paying attention.
"Here....Paulo Bento, Portuguese national coach.....he's very uh, uh probably very concerned about uh uh uh, the game, about the need....he n nnee needs, the needs, Portugal needs.........winning the uh game, for uh............winnings...they need winning the game, Portugal needs winning the game.....to uh remains.....FOCUSED, in the, in the uh world cup....and focused in the chance to uh stay in the uh, first position in the group."
Do yourself a favor and listen to it, it's freakin awesome.

Going to tomorrow's WC qualifier b/w the US and Panama. They capped attendance to 45K so the Mariners wouldn't get butthurt the 10K fans who show up against the Lastros can find parking.
“I heard there were many soccer fans, but I didn't know that much,” forward Terrence Boyd told reporters after Monday's training session. “This is a great commercial for MLS, what's happening right now. Fifty-thousand? Even in the Bundesliga, this is a big deal.”

Great to be a soccer fan in Seattle.
Hopefully the field holds up, apparently it's already in pretty bad shape.

I'm looking forward to hearing all the complaints about the pitch. From what I've read the thing is a freaking disaster.
What a bizarre statement...
End of the day, both teams will play on the same less than ideal surface where guess what, losers are all sour grapes and winners are magnanimous. Misery loves company, I suppose?
And instead of reading about it, from my perspective 20 rows up, the ball was fast. Nothing weird or different other than softer bounces on the grass than the usual turf.
It did look uneven in spots which I assume are the seams that connect the sections of grass so no it isn't Old Trafford nor is it as bad as what the USMNT played on in Kingston on Friday.

It looked horrendous, I only caught the second half but it was repeatedly talked about by the homer US commentators which to me is a pretty damning statement. I know Seattle deserved a game, but they really do need to do a better job with the field conditions for these things.

But the crowd was amazing. Love all those songs in the 2nd half.
Despite the scoreline I thought Panama played well. They were well organized and made the US work. Panama had been unbeaten in their previous 10 matches.
I think the US gets 15 points at home so that's a wash for all teams. Panama definitely can compete with Honduras and Costa Rica. Jamaica is pretty much eliminated, they lost all 3 matches in 8 days.
