Browns, how does his development role for players 14+ work?
Is he going to be running around the country watching kids play?

I watched the interview this morning and I thought that Herdman sounded well thought out. That doesn't fix everything of course, but I think he will be a stabilizing influence for the men and that can't be bad. I hope he's successful there, obviously.

Cyle Larin has transferred to Besiktas, who are in the last 16 of the Champions League.
His move from Orlando was a debacle, as Orlando had exercised a team-only option on Larin's deal assuming he was under contract until 2019, while Larin thought he was a free agent as FIFA had not recognized team-only options in the past. Besiktas announced on Twitter that Larin was going physical testing a few weeks ago, and Orlando obviously challenged that.
A good summary of the situation is here:
http://www.espn.com/soccer/major-lea...uences-for-mls
And the following quote which sums up how despite Larin's tactics in forcing the move, he wasn't the only party at fault in the whole ordeal:
Quote:
But this was a scenario potentially avoided if Orlando City had handled the Larin situation better from the start.
The 2015 No. 1 overall draft pick was a consistent goal scorer from the time he stepped foot on the field for Orlando. Yet Larin was perhaps the most underpaid player in the league.
He crushed the MLS rookie goal-scoring record with 17 goals in 2015, but in the midst of a front-office upheaval after the season, did not get a new contract. He followed up that stellar debut season with 14 more goals in 2016 -- once again tops on the team. Still, Larin, who was making less than $200,000, did not receive a new contract offer.
There were transfer offers ahead of the 2017 season and interest again during the summer window, but Orlando City didn't sell. It wanted to wait until after the season when its percentage of a transfer fee would increase from 50 percent to 67 percent. It also offered a below-market-value raise to Larin, per a source with knowledge of the discussions. Shortly after that offer, Larin was arrested for driving under the influence.
Despite its hesitation at rewarding Larin with a big contract extension, Orlando traded as much as a then-league-record $1.6 million in allocation money for a forward, Dom Dwyer, who had scored fewer goals than Larin over the previous two seasons. After the trade, it started work on a contract extension that would eventually pay Dwyer more than $1 million a year. Larin spent the final month of the season on the bench -- a confusing decision that decreased Larin's value ahead of a winter window when Orlando City might look to move him.
The showdown with Larin and Besiktas was the fallout of an increasingly contentious relationship. Orlando definitely played a role in that escalation.

Canada wins 1-0 over New Zealand. Ricketts with the goal. Liverpool U23 player Liam Millar makes his debut, and looks damn good on the left wing.

Probably pretty nice for Herdman to get a win in his first match as well!

They don't play again until Sept? I know there's a WC in there but you'd think they could squeeze another friendly or two in the next 6 months before the Fall.

I love how Ricketts has been crapped on for a lot of his career but is quietly closing in on DeRo's all time national goals total. Pretty impressive.

Canada's U21 youth team is playing in the Toulon Tournament in France this year. So far they've drawn Portugal (who sent a U19 team) 0-0 on Monday, and they defeated Turkey U21 1-0 today.
Group winners + best second place winner make the semifinals, and as of today Canada are topping their group.

Alphonso Davies transfer rumours have been heating up as he has been lighting up MLS this year. Latest one has him going to Bayern for $12 million. Germany would be an easier place for him to get a work permit over England.

Honestly, that’s a mistake. He’s going to rot away on the bench there, compared to going to a club where he could play and develop?

Well presumably he would be loaned out to a lower Bundesliga or 2. Liga side to develop to start.
IMO it's a better move than some of the other big name clubs that Davies has been linked with, given that Ribery and Robben are nearing the end of their careers. I always think that a player should go where they will play right away, and not have to focus on loan deals to develop, but Bayern aren't scared to loan young talents out (Sanches as an example).

And hopefully that’s the case. But Sanches at Swansea was just horrible. His development was seemingly done and he had gone nowhere. There are a lot of factors and hopefully wherever he goes he turns out to be superstar he can be. I just don’t love the move to a huge club right away. I get it, because of course there’s an allure to going to the giant, but there’s a risk as well.

I'd rather he go to Bayern than Real. No one thinks he's going to jump into the first team. Hopefully he shows well with his upcoming loans and develops for a few years. The biggest adjustment will be tactically.
I'm not sure how he improves much more playing for the hot garbage Whitecaps.

Interview with Manuel Veth of ProSoccerUSA.com who covers the Bayern Munich and the bundesliga. He says in the interview he thinks Davies will stay with the White Caps till the end of the season. He will then move to Bayern in January. He also says that he thinks Davies could be playing on the first team next season, and that he looks ready. Also mentions he believes the deal is done this week.

So i was looking at scheduling and CONCACAF is also doing a nations league similar to Europe.
So Canada will be playing US virgin Islands, Dominica, St. Kitts and Nevis and French Guinea. Top 6 teams go into League A. and Top 10 teams qualify for the Gold Cup.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2019%E...gue_qualifying
This mini-tournament really should be called, "crush your opponent by as much as possible", as it'll all come down to goal difference.

I predict Davies will break De Rosario's goal record during CONCACAF Nations League qualifying. Only 20 goals needed...
