Loved watching MacKinnon chuck knuckles last night, after a dirty hit to his team-mate.
I know some will argue that your best player shouldn't be fighting. But he is also their captain and their leader, and at that moment, he was leading with his fists, which sent a HUGE message to his bench.
Also, Iginla, Howe, Richard, and so many other of the greatest leaders of all time say pfft to the no fighting thing.
I don't think there is any doubt that - right now - MacKinnon is better.

Isn’t Landeskog the captain?
Point remains, but unless that changed somewhere and i missed it, MacKinnons not the captain. He’s their leader no question though. Guy is a beast.

You are correct, he wears an A, not a C.
Point stands.

Yeah, Mackinnon is clearly the heart and soul of that team. He is their best player by a country mile, and he does it all EXTREMELY well. I have long said that if I were given the first choice of any player to start a new hockey team, Nathan MacKinnon would be my pick.
In the aftermath of the Oilers season I have noticed a slight shift in how pundits have started to talk about Mchobo: less so explicitly as the greatest player on earth, and more along the lines as the top one-on-one player, and I think I can agree with this. Since his entrance into the NHL he has always been and he continues to be a solo act. For five years now it has been extremely difficult to find players to play with McSniffles, which is why his line is always so overpopulated by bottom-feeding scrubs like Chiasson, Neal, Archibald and Kassian. Simply put: McLoser does not make other players better. And until he figures out how to play a team game, nothing will ever change.
Furthermore, what is most delightful in all of this is that Oilers fans and media sycophants are more than happy to give him a pass for this: poor, poor Connor, who never has any help on his line, and who must do all the work all by himself.

It's a shame that MacKinnon doesn't get the same love and promoting that McDavid gets.
Did I mention that he makes HALF of what McDavid makes (and half the cap hit), at least for the next 4 years?

Three years. Mackinnon is getting paid in 2023, when he will rightly become the highest paid hockey player on earth.

MacKinnon completely drives an entire team, and is the most dangerous player in the playoffs. If he gets McDavid's $12 m contract it will be a significant discount on what he is actually worth.
What is certain is that he is sure as hell making a LOT more than $6.3 m on his next deal.

still love how Crosby is making close to 9 million a year and how Oiler fans gush about McHobo taking a great team friendly deal at 12.5. yeah he really stepped up there.

Please don't give MacKinnon the captaincy, he'll turn Super Saiyan.

Gotta be specific because it’s too cool...
8.7. Identical to the 5 year contract prior. That’s taking a team discount.

Not to mention, McDavid's contract was a post-ELC second contract. Calling $12.5M a discount, for a 2nd contract (at that time) is ridiculous. It wasn't.
