The point was that the threat of doctors leaving the province with a UCP win is real. My lifestyle and housing options aren't dissimilar to my friends who are doctors. My one doctor friend already has his BC license and works 2 days a month on the island to keep it current. He said everyone he knows in the field is considering their options. Doctors are in high demand across the planet. They have options and they have the means to follow through on a move. This is not a group of people you want your government antagonizing right now.

I'd also wager to say that the majority of physicians - at least the ones I know - have an unwavering commitment to public healthcare. They don't feel comfortable only giving services to those who can afford it. That's not what the Hippocratic Oath asks of them and their skillsets are not bound to only a vein of the population. Not to mention their own extended families and communities don't want a privatized system, and they don't want it either.

I had one family doc railing against virtual app visits because at the end of the day, you need a professional to physically check you out and perform in-house services. The same cannot be done simply over a phone call, and ends up requiring the patient to come in anyways or is recommended to go see a doctor in-person. Unless it's like a standard prescription renewal or something that just requires paperwork, it ends up costing the system - and the patient - more than if they just came in for a normal visit.

I think the public system needs a revisit and consolidation of services across all of Canada to streamline efficiencies, but physicians in Alberta are definitely sitting on the edge of their seats waiting for the election to finish so Smith can release her privatization plans without being muzzled for voting purposes. It's coming.

Oh, also, if public transit is a concern for you, then how in the world could you not be voting NDP? It's one of the reasons I'm voting NDP, and it's not even something I need for myself, I just recognize that it's vitally important.

Young people - GET OUT AND VOTE TODAY. UCP supporters, especially the older ones (and brainwashed lemmings like Yoho), are motivated and are interested in determining your future. Get out and vote and make sure your voice is heard too. This province is your future, you should decide which direction it goes. Your voice and vote absolutely matter.

I was just trying to be funny. My post can be mostly ignored for anything beyond that.

Well, to be honest (shout out to the Gear Grinder thread), it was funny. But you should still get out there and vote for the NDP today as it's the right thing to do for a whole lot of reasons.

I'm really nervous about this.

In my head I think it's UCP as I believe there are too many people in the province that are uneducated to the reality of what both parties stand for. Especially Calgary will stick to the UCP for perceived financial benefits and ignore everything else.

I'm hoping though that there are enough people just keeping quiet about their change from conservative to NDP for this election it will make the difference.

Feels like Smith's big old spending party might get her across the finish line. Disappointing that she has a good chance at winning.

I think the NDP doesn't get the deep south Calgary ridings they need, and those people #### the entire province. So a preemptive thanks for that. Wondering how many of my doctors I am going to lose.

It's more than disappointing, it's depressing as hell how so many people can be fooled so easily. I really did think deep down people were smart enough to not vote for someone as incompetent and selfish as Smith.

If those tweets Ozy posted earlier in this thread come to fruition, it's gonna be a bloodbath.

Which tweets?

I was fearing a US like revolt if the NDP wins with the nut jobs in this province.

Check out post #11928.

Also, MBates' post on page 594 is a must-read. That post should be stickered at the top of each page of this thread.

It's too bad the NDP didn't pull a rebrand and new leader after Kenney won. The Federal NDP brand is too scary for some people. The ANDP isn't left economically at all.

Why are you surprised? Just like the previous election, this province deserves exactly what it gets. Too many Albertans are too selfishly motivated by greed to possibly risk even slightly mucking the economic waters (which wouldn't even happen based on the NDP platform). Less than 50% of the population cares about putting our vast O+G royalties towards public education, health care and other social programs. They should be among the most heavily funded and well run systems in the world. It really is quite sad.

Four more years of this government and they will have taken a public education system that used to be a gold standard and turned it into a disgrace of overcrowding and underperforming classes. It is all by design to slowly shift the people that can afford it to the private system, just as they are doing with the health care system. We can also look forward to skyrocketing insurance, tuition utility bills on top of what is likely going to be a whole new round of user fees for accessing the things we love about this province.

Buckle up.

Go UCP! I want more doctors where I am.

That could make a decent chant.

"For more doctors in BC, Vote UCP!"

Not just the deep south of Calgary as I don't think the NDP will be winning some of the ridings in the north like Calgary Northwest and Calgary Varsity. Calgary Bow will likely be very close. I suspect your riding might turn to NDP although I haven't paid attention to your NDP candidate. It was a struggle for Jeremy to finally get that seat and I don't expect it to be very secure.

I'm only surprised in that I didn't think people were THAT dumb. I'm a pretty cynical guy, but it seems I've vastly overestimated the intelligence of my fellow Canadians. I shall re-calibrate.
