I know, it’s confusing and disorienting when the A24 logo doesn’t flash in the opening credits to indicate whether you’re supposed to like something.

This one is easy. One is alive making movies, the other died over 10 years ago. So if the acting looks a little skin bare, it's probably Hoffman's zombie.

Plemons isn't really tubby these days. He did play Hoffman's son in 'The Master'. Really hope he gets his flowers for his Bugonia performance. Amazing actor.

He's been around for a while but it seems his career really started to take flight after Breaking Bad and Fargo in particular.

The fact that it's gotten this far without a mention of Game Night, one of the most underrated comedies of the last decade, leads me to believe that perhaps some of you haven't seen it, and if so, that is an oversight that should be remedied immediately.

How is that profitable for Frito-Lay?
Also this great scene:
Hopefully with Bugonia he gets his due.

LOL, I was just about to mention that. Plemons did fantastic work as the socially awkward neighbor cop in that. It's worth the time to watch for his performance alone, but overall, it's a pretty fun movie.

I thought Bugonia was brilliant, and it should appease the crowd turned off by Poor Things and Kinds of Kindness

Yeah, he's among a handful of the best actors going right now. Something about his vacant expressions where you can't quite get a read on his motives is so unnerving as a viewer and really dials up the entertainment factor. He plays the 'psychotic' character incredibly well.

Fun fact: Jesse Plemons wasn't originally cast for that role in Civil War. Oscar Isaac (rumoured) was originally cast but had to drop out last minute. Plemons, married to Kirsten Dunst, was already close by taking care of the kids and filled in as a favour to his wife.

Did you guys know there are three French Connection movies? There's the first two with Gene Hackman, and then in the 80s there was a TV movie called Popeye Doyle with Ed O'Neill as the titular character. I need to check it out.

Recently re-watched all the Pirates movies as a family. How do we think they've aged? Here are my reviews.
The Curse of the Black Pearl: I remember when this came out I thought a movie based on a Disney ride was the dumbest thing ever and had zero interest in watching. Finally gave it a chance after hearing the great word of mouth and it's not only great but is one of the best adventure movies ever. It's just perfectly cast with Depp being brilliant and great chemistry between Bloom and Knightley. The story is fun fast paced story with an interesting super natural twist. That line from Rush about being in a ghost story is one of the most iconic movie quotes every. Just a classic film that is worth a regular rewatch. 10/10
Dead Man's Chest: I enjoyed this one with another fun story and Nighy and Skarsgard added to an already stacked cast. Davy Jones is a great villain with the crew of the Dutchman feeling like the peak of Hollywood CGI. Also can't go wrong with a Kraken. My biggest disappointment at the time, which still stands today, is this only tells half a story and ends on a cliffhanger. Also starts the meandering plot and over the top action that lets down the rest of the series. 8/10
At World's End: I disliked this at the time and nothing has changed. If I am going to criticize the previous installment for only being half a movie, this one is two and a half movies stuck together with a confusing story that is way too long and all over the place. At one point I was thinking it should be over soon and there was still an hour to go! Also is the start of Depp's acting going too far into parody territory. Will say the final action scene in the whirlpool is very epic. 4/10
On Stranger Tides: I was skeptical of this one with Bloom and Knightley leaving the cast but it's probably not as bad as some reviews make it out to be. McShane is a solid villain and Cruz has some chemistry with Depp. The story is a bit forgettable but does provide some interesting moments. Will also give it an extra point because it is a far more interesting Fountain of Youth story than that recent god awful one on Apple. 5/10
Dead Men Tell No Tales: Also called Salazar's Revenge for some reason but regardless of the title, it's easily the worst in the series. Tries to mimic the earlier films with less interesting Will and Elizabeth replacements and another cursed heavily CGIed pirate crew. Bardem is fine as the villain but he's not given much to work with, having a very one dimensional revenge motivation. Is also Depp's worst performance and am pretty sure he was abusing substances when filming. I do remember all the dramas with him and Heard when they were filming this locally in Queensland. 3/10

I haven't seen all of those but I have seen the first two and based solely on your response to those I think you need to take 2 points off of each of those ratings.
