Watched Black Phone 2 on the weekend and do not recommend. Certainly not as good as the 1st movie. Not sure what this film was trying to do but it feels like a cross between Nightmare on Elm Street and The Exorcist without coming close to either of them. Meh 5/10 for some of the visuals.

Watched a couple good ones recently.
Roofman: a true story of a 'nice' guy who robbed McDonald's franchises throughout the U.S. and camped out at a Toys R Us to hide from the police. Wild story, and Channing Tatum/Kirsten Dunst deliver solid performances. Worth the watch. 7.5/10
Bugonia: latest from Yorgos Lanthimos (Poor Things, The Lobster, Killing of a Sacred Deer). Jesse Plemons gives an awesome performance, where he and his cousin kidnap a billionaire CEO (Emma Stone) they believe is an alien. Really strong performances from both Plemons and Stone. I had high expectations, but it was even better than I expected. 9/10

Finally got around to watching the travesty that is Argylle. I knew going it it was a flop and not to expect much. At the very least I figured I could get baked and turn off my brain for a few hours and just watch a humerous action romp.
Some of the worst acting and mis-cast characters I've ever seen. The action scenes were alright, but overall boring. Sam Rockwell and the author lady had absolutely terrible chemistry. Rockwell in particular was a terrible fit.
Made it through the 1st hour and that was enough to turn it off.

Yeah, I'm about done with the "shared" experience.

I don't think I've been to a theatre with more than 10 people in it for the past 15 I went to. Its usually 4 or less people. Would never know if someone was on their phone or the negligible smell of a vape.

Darren Aronofsky kind of laid an egg with Caught Steeling. Not even a great cast could save what's a pretty generic and dumb story. Felt like one of those forgettable Netflix made for streaming movies.

An eminently forgettable and mediocre film. Hollywood can quit trying to make that Elvis guy a thing anytime now. He's somehow less interesting than that generic guy in the Running Man remake. Nothing he's in feels like it's worth watching

Austin Butler. Ever since Tarantino made comments about how Austin Butler would've been better than Paul Dano in 'There Will Be Blood', I've disliked him even more. I thought about watching 'Caught Stealing', but Austin Butler's presence in it made it a skip for me.

Plus the UCP and Marlaina didn't help matters.

Seems like Hollywood is just throwing leading men against the wall hoping someone sticks as they continue to search for the next Tom Cruise/Brad Pitt iconic, big film actor. Powell and Butler are at best supporting role types.

I don’t mind Powell, but I agree he’s better suited for supporting roles than leading star. Dude just doesn’t have the same level of charisma or talent as guys like Cruise/Pitt.

Case in point: excellent in Top Gun Maverick.
And Twisters.
Great brash/cocky and kind of annoying side piece.

Plemons deserved the Oscar. Amazing performance that i fear will be overshadowed by DiCaprio in One Battle After Another. Anyone else in the role of Plemons character and this movies potentially misses the mark.
I thought Bugonia was brilliant, and it should appease the crowd turned off by Poor Things and Kinds of Kindness

Stavvy was great too. Almost too realistic.

Just watched tonight
Plemons gave me chills. Perfection. A good movie, made great with all the casting choices. Agree 100% the movie could have easily missed the mark - But would say without all the casting choices.

Caught Stealing is one of the worse recent movies I've seen, right next to Argyle.
Bugonia had me laughing when I started second guessing where he was going, I know Lanthamos is a lunatic but I started wondering if he would do what is not expected of him to f with us. Very enjoyable.
