Three 2nds is solid. I liked weegar but given the season he is having his age and the term he has left I think it was smart to move him now that could easily be a negative value contract if he has another green jacket season.

Really would have loved it if the prospect was better. But the three picks are equivalent to 18 overall value wise. If they can add another 1st for coleman or kadri we will add 9 prospects from the first 3 rounds of this draft.

Sign the center prospect and get him into the system. With our center depth the kid won't have a better chance to play anywhere and should be pretty excited to come in to the organization.

I think yes you set your value and wait for then to come to you, but after a while this is what a rebuilding team should be doing, move out guys in their 30s and take the best offer on the table after a reasonable interval of time. The rebuild has been absolutely painful with how slow its going the last 3 years and Im relieved to see them leaning in a bit more with deals like this one. Pleasantly surprised to see this go down today

Look, I like Weegar but his best years may be behind him. There is no guarantee he returns to form.

Nobody was giving us multiple 1st round picks for him with how he has been playing this year.

Makes me wonder if some have actually watched Weegar this season

Castanga has to like his path to a centre role better with the Flames than the Mammoth given who he was behind there.

With how some people are talking in this thread, you would swear we just traded Matthew Tkachuk lol. Three 2nds isn't even bad, one is basically a late 1st.

Drafted early in the 3rd, and has progressed well, and is a big, great skating C who is fantastic in the dot. Easily has 2nd round value now.

I won't be at all surprised if Conroy gets a pick for Maatta next year or the year after, as well.

Would anybody here be happy if the roles were reversed and it included a top prospect? If we traded a top prospect for a guy on the wrong side of 30 who is on a long contract and having a terrible year? The meltdown would be legendary.

I like Weegs the player and the person but this is a pretty good deal, given the situation.

It stings to lose Weegar, I love the player but what a return. I wish him the best of luck with Utah and hope he can provide a boost to keep the Mammoth ahead of the Oilers in the standings.

You gotta be happy with three high-2nds, a serviceable veteran defenceman (btw Olli Maataa how dare you put Calgary on your no-trade list, who do you think you are?! also, welcome!) and a prospect that our resident Cornell expert calgARI says is legit.

Like others, I'm curious as to whether Conroy is gonna make a push to use these picks to move up to the top of the draft if the lottery doesn't go our way.

I didn't necessarily buy that the Flames were fully rebuilding before today. I do now.

I was just hoping for one of those good prospects that Utah have in their system and they are not even using

But you can imagine it’s a good odd to get a decent player with three 2nd in the same draft…..

It is what it is
