Nice. seeing 95-97 on the fastball so far.
Good control too, although it's a small sample.

Looks like it's going to come down to the Jays and the Os for the last playoff spot isnt it?

Yup. We will find out which team is less "fowl".
I'll show myself out.

A combined 3 hitter on bullpen day, man was that what the doctor ordered?
Yamaguchi has really come around. SRF was fantastic too.
Guerrero with the 110 mph grounder for the 3-run double.
The best thing about the Jays for the last week or two? Solid defense and no more stupid errors. They are playing really good fundamental baseball.
They are a really fun team to watch (when they aren't pissing you off with dumb plays)

The Orioles are pretenders. They have played 19 home games to the Jays' 10. And they are 3-9 against teams above .500 good luck in the AL East with that stat.
Jays are now 2 games behind the Yankees and a game and a half ahead of the Os.

Dear god! 98mph to 80 mph? That's an insane speed gap. If a batter is sitting on one of them and he throws the other they don't have a chance.

His stuff is insane. A 10 mph difference from the fastball to the changeup is really good. He is throwing up a 15+ mph difference. I can't think of anyone, off the top of my head, that does that consistently.
For curiosity, I just did some quick math (and may well have screwed it up, but here goes):
98 mph fastball takes 0.421016 seconds to get to home plate
80 mph change takes 0.515772 seconds
So, in 0.421016 seconds, the change travels 49.38 feet
Therefore (if I did this right) when the fastball reaches the plate, the changeup is still 11 feet from the plate.
That is insane.

If I remember correctly, commentators were recently discussing this, assuming a pitcher had a 10 mph differential, and they suggested that it meant 5 to 6 ft difference. If so, then the 18 mph difference would be about 11 ft, so I guess I did it right.

In reality though, the ball isn't travelling 60.5 ft, because the pitcher releases it several ft closer to the plate. So everything needs to be scaled down by that amount - between 6 and 10 ft, or roughly 10%.

And another truly amazing thing about it is watching that clip, if you watch his delivery on both pitches they are pretty much identical as far as I can tell. Wind up, arm action, the whole thing.

yes, along with the off-the-charts differential, he is also elite with the delivery, making them look pretty much identical.

Something about his presence on the mound combined with the increased velo made SRF look like a future closer. Of course he has to show the ability over a longer period, but the stuff is there.

Jay's traded for Taijuan Walker, pending free agent. A player to be named is the price, sounds like it isn't someone on the 60 man player pool.
Good acquisition, starting depth is looking pretty scarce right now.
Let's get an upgrade at 3rd now.
Brock Holt was released today, he is a better bench player than Drury, the only problem being that he is another lefty, do it doesn't help much to get Shaw or Biggio away from lefties.

Yeah, he definitely has the stuff for high leverage relief if he can maintain command. The Jays have a lot of that going on this year, it's pretty exciting.

PTBNL or cash considerations.
If the price is right I guess.
Jays needed a starting pitcher with all the injuries. The impatient me wants a big name front end of the rotation starter, but no sense paying the probably steep price for a guy like that while still rebuilding and also in the middle of a pandemic season where you don't even know if it'll get completed.

I like this add considering the injuries to the starting staff. Walker is also stretched out, throwing 98 and 106 pitches in his last 2 starts.

Montoyo will still take him out after 80 pitches. His game management is suspect.

Seems like a pretty low risk move to me!
He is middle of the rotation guy, like an ideal #3 guy. Obviously injury problems throughout his career but a couple fairly respectable seasons during his career. Doesn't move the needle really, but the Jays need pithing help!
