Now that the 2014 season is in the books I have to say that Monahan has been the highlight of the year for me. He may not be the flashiest player but he works hard and his maturity/composure is incredible. I see a future captain in Monahan. Looking forward to next season already!

Indeed he was. Brampton Excelsiors, according to his Wikipedia page.

That would certainly explain some of the Nieuwendyk vibes I get from watching him play. Thanks for giving me the clue to check into that.

I'm a big Monahan booster, but even I only said that I thought he could score 40 at some point in his career. If Joe Pavelski can score 40 goals in his career year, why not Monahan? But I doubt he does it more than once. I don't think that's too crazy, do you?

He reminds me a lot of Niewendyk in a lot of ways, too. Similar frame and skating style and quick release. Given the lacrosse background they have in common, I suspect we may see him turn into a puck deflecting wizard like Joe, too, at some point.

Oh...and Heatley did it 2 times in Ottawa.

The more I think of it the less I would be surprised if Monahan achieved that.
I'm surprised no one else has corrected me yet :P

It should be

Perry
Crosby
Stamkos x2
Iginla x2
Bure x2
Ovechkin x5
Cheechoo
Lecavalier
Hejduk
Kovalchuk x2
Sakic
Heatley x2
LeClair

22 in 16 years?
Well then...I will eat my words GreenLantern! Theres a decent chance. But I still dont expect it.
If you are including Sakic and LeClair then you need to add:

Jagr x 2 (05/06 and 01/02)

I think Sean will still get more points next year than what he did this year.

I think more goals than assists again, in a 40-45 point range if he manages to play a full season.

I see Monohan, as he develops, having his goal and assist totals even out. He looks to me to be a 30/30 player with the odd year jumping up higher. Does he have the potential to score 40 in a year? Sure. But players aren't getting that high anymore regularly unless they are the #1 focal point of their team's offence, and the hope with the developing flames team is that there will be depth in scoring, with a couple of top guys who can step up when needed. I would much prefer a steady, 60-70 point centre who plays in all situations and a team built like Boston or Chicago, or even Colorado, who have a lot of contributors. Look at Bergeron (30/32 in 80 games), Toews (28/40 in 76 games) and O'Reilly (28/36 in 80 games). Guys who score approx 30 goals and 60-70 points, play in all situations, but have guys around them who also chip in.
If Monohan ends up in that range, 25-35 goals, 60-70 points, then he will be a very valuable piece of this team

Monahan needs to improve his skating, at times he looks slow.
If he does improve in this department and he should, we could have a Joe Nieuwendyk type of a player with some scoring adjustment for the era.

Happy with his first year like everyone else.

his point totals are going to depend on the talent of his linemates. Swapping Colborne out for someone like Hudler for the whole year would boost his totals a fair amount.

I suppose this depends on his development - but also the development of his potential wingers. I can see Gaudreau getting a ridiculous ammount of assists in the NHL because of how quick he thinks and his passing ability. Sean always has his stick on the ice and is in a great position so who knows? It (# ofgoals) may depend as much on his potential future linemates progression as his own.

Gio said no due to a lingering injury
