Can't argue with the top 4 order.. Top 10 seems ok ish After that it all becomes a bit subjective.
For starters ..... and I don't think I'm being a homer here when I question in what planet Ashley Cole is considered a better footballer than Rooney?
I think Ashley Cole is a better footballer than Rooney. He shuts down that (right attacking) flank every match with consistency. He shuts down Messi every time.
If you were to put together a European XI right now, Ashley Cole would be the only Engand player to be considered. He's the best left back in the world in maybe the last 20 years.
Not EPL, not even outdoor soccer but check out this Futsal goal from this week
That was dope but a part of me hopes that it was fake and Liverpool spend £20 million on him in January.

you can't say because Ashley Cole would be the best LB in an all world team (which he wouldn't because Lahm would be) that he's better than Rooney because of that
it's only because LB is such a weaker position world wide than striker is
The Following User Says Thank You to d_phaneuf For This Useful Post:
I'm saying Maldini was a better left back than Cole was/is. That he could play centre also only adds to the argument for him, just as Irwin and Lahm could play both wings.

We're talking Denis Irwin, right?
Anyways .... all this has done is prove how subjective the list is.
That's still ridiculous, Roberto Carlos cannot defend!
In today's football, Ashley Cole's really good. Countless times he's marked Messi and Ronaldo out of the game. Two legs of the Champion's League semifinal last year Messi and mighty Barcelona could not do a thing against him.
Redknapp also confirmed that full back Jose Bosingwa had been fined two weeks' wages after refusing to sit on the bench for last weekend's 2-1 victory over Fulham.
"He didn't want to be on the bench and didn't want to be a substitute, so he went home," Redknapp said. "He has been fined two weeks' wages, 130,000 pounds ($210,000). Not too bad for two weeks, decent isn't it? Not too bad for playing on a Saturday, it's okay."
Martin Lipton of the Mirror ponders all the big talk about Ajax’s golden boy Christian Eriksen joining Spurs for £20m. “I think there’s every chance of that happening,” he begins. “Tottenham are definitely in for him. He’s a very intelligent, talented young Danish player, and Ajax will be looking to cash in on him. I’d give that an eight or nine out of 10.

"Me to AC Milan? My agent speaks with (AC Milan CEO, Adriano) Galliani, but my future depends on Robinho and Pastore," Taarabt told La Gazzetta dello Sport.
"Milan aren't going through a glorious period now, and they're no longer a part of the top clubs, but making it big with the Rossoneri could open the door to huge clubs like Real Madrid or Barcelona."
