My preference would not be to give #14 to a prominent young player. i.e. - Tig Iginla. The pressure will be high enough, especially if it's Iginla. Can you imagine the circus that would come with giving him #14.
Give it to someone coming up through the system. Maybe when Poirier makes the jump. He's likely not going to get his #4 with the big club.

Not fair to the young ones, best to trade for someone who already wears 14 on another team, and they can keep their number. Looks like there are a few to choose from.

Agreed.
No young players should have to deal with more storylines than they signed up for. Imagine Theo and his cronies spouting off with child-like vigor about the flames and the player in question like he does about Gondek? No thanks.

It's shameful that such an awful person tainted the flaming C Jersey. There. Succinct.
Fleury, who was my favorite player growing up, is an awful human being who deserves zero accolades for anything because of the hatred he espouses. No acknowledgement for any play is necessary because that is a reward to a person for an accomplishment. You do not acknowledge his great play if he's an awful human being

Former Olympic figure skater Jamie Salé endorses Theo Fleury’s theory that Danielle Smith is sending planes in the air to spray Alberta with a “barium / aluminum mist” to start wildfires.

Both Salé and Fleury are employed by an eccentric Saskatchewan millionaire named Joseph Bourgault.
Bourgault was a significant funder of the Freedom Convoy – according to the Emergencies Act Inquiry, he rented out blocks of hotel rooms for convoy leaders

Nutjobs, completely detached from reality. These people suck.
As for the fires, a conspiracy theorist in Quebec admitted to starting 14 fires himself, these people are out of their minds.

^^ More likely than her sending barium/aluminum misters into the air.

You can’t “give” 14 to anyone - like, here kid, go get em.
That’s setting whoever it is up for failure.
Now, if a special player with the game to back it up comes to Conroy and says “I want 14” - different story. Maybe find a way to cleanse the number without removing it from circulation.

You know what? Perfect. Just. Perfect.
Retire #14.
Raise the banner to the rafters.
But don't put Fleury's name on it. Have it read: "No One."
14 is retired, a big F-you to Fleury. Everybody's happy. Except probably Fleury.
The thing is, I can, to a point, separate the person from the player. To a point. I remember amazing times when Fleury was pretty much the only player worth watching. But after a while that shine fades and you've just got to move along.

The solution is obvious, no? Retire #14 as Kent Nilsson's number. You could easily justify it, he had some amazing seasons in Calgary.

Just retire Kent Nilsson and be done with it.

Platforming broke late middle aged ex-athletes sure does perpetuate the stereotype of "dumb jock". My high school math teacher (and football coach) must be rolling over in his grave - he always hated that because he was some sort of savant when it came to numbers, but everyone just called him "coach" and made assumptions.

I am an ASET member and they are having their yearly general meeting and award ceremony at the Banff Springs hotel in a few weeks. Awesome, because they are giving us a massive room discount and free meals, all for <$300. Taking the wife to make a nice weekend off it for a great price. But then I saw the org's email the other day that Fleury is the guest speaker. WTF, noooooooo. Common man. Why??
I have no idea what he is going to say, nor what kind of crowd I can now expect to be sitting with. I'll be eating my beef wellington and sipping champagne biting my tongue. Should be an....interesting event.

What does Theo's delusional scientific beliefs have to do with the Association of Science & Engineering Technologists?
I guess that association sounds like it's mainly blue collar SAIT/NAIT grads who might work in the field and associate with his beliefs?

Yeah, that's a head-scratcher. You'd think that ASET would be an association of and for logical and rational thinkers. I'd be irate if I was a member.
