One of my favorites of 2010 has to be Treelines. They're not too widely known about yet, though they have come up with a gem of an EP (Young Man) and a full length album (Treelines) in such a short amount of time.
I love these types of threads as it allows me to click a play button and hear different types of music that I would never consider listening to otherwise.

Thanks for the rec. Gave both albums a listen and I gotta say, they sound good. There's something genuinely likable about their sound. They have room to grow as songwriters (expectedly), but for a "nobody" band that's only been together for a year and a half... there's definite potential there.

Off with Their Heads - "In Desolation" was the best album of the year. Pretty sure their next album will get a bit of mainstream success. The punk rock genre has been pretty much ignored for the last few years and I suspect we will see a couple of breakouts in Off with Their Heads, Flatliners, Make Do and Mend. Then again I thought Hot Water Music was eventually going to blow up so who knows.

Never heard of any of them and not sure if punk rock will every be mainstream and that is the way it should be aside from Sex Pistols, Clash, Ramones etc. that only became mainstream well after the fact. Punk rock was formed in the 1970's based on the perceived excesses of mainstream rock. Not sure if it will ever be as good as it once was? Going to check it out though....

This band called Green Day was pretty big too. I am not a huge fan, but I would put a lot of their stuff in with the punk genre. Bad Religion, Alkaline Trio, Rise Against, Against Me, all are bands that have recently seen some success. Are these bands going to be Arena rock bands? Doubtful (aside from Green Day), but they can get some major radioplay and sell out larger clubs.

Somewhere in time punk became a "sound" rather than a reaction. Punk should be rebellion. Rock used to be rebellion. Some new movement will have to shake the establishment.

My vote goes to gypsy punk!

His mustache and shirt are enough to make me not want to give them a try.

Saw them last weekend here in town, great show, really nice group. They opened for a local Stoon up and comer Foam Lake:
Don't have their album out yet, or on youtube that I can find, but their single is here on their website, another really great low key band.
