Ortio played for TPS again tonight. This time they lost only 4-2, 27 saves and an assist for Joni. I don't know how he looked, but it's noteworthy that he got the start against the second-place Ässät.
Their coach talked about lack of hard work, sloppy defense and bad penalties.
We'll see where they and Ortio stand in the second half of the season. It's a funny situation because they're so far out of competition for a playoff spot that they're not necessarily in a hurry to get another veteran goaltender, at least not as much as they would be if they still had hope. Still, it could happen.
Another thing is that if they continue like this, TPS will have to play for their spot in the league next spring against the best team of the second tier league (which I guess could still be KooKoo for whom Ortio started once this season, even though their season hasn't been as good as they expected).

Heat beat the Milwaukee Admirals 4-2 tonight.
First goal was a shot from the point by Seabrook, tipped by Cunning.
Second goal was on a bad turnover down low to Matt Keith, who showed great patience outwaiting the goaltender and slipping it by on the backhand.
Third goal was a beauty. Shorthanded 2-on-1, Nemisz passing it across to Bancks for the finish.
Fourth goal another beauty. On the same penalty kill Patterson strips the puck from the defender then outskates the pursuit and dekes the goalie to the backhand.
Other notes: Four former flames in the lineup for Milwaukee - Aaron Johnson, Brent Palin, Steve Begin and Jamie Lundmark. J.P Lamaroux looked pretty solid all night long. One goal got by on a long screen shot, the other was late in the game on a scramble in front after Milwaukee pulled their goalie. But the save of the game was on a very questionable penalty shot awarded to Jamie Lundmark (when a Heat player shoveled a broken stick towards the puck?!?) - Jamie got it up over J.P's stacked pads but couldn't get it by the glove hand.
Didn't notice much of Mitch Wahl on the night. Chris Breen is huge. Some guy across the arena was rocking a Quad City Flames jersey. Abbotsford sucks - Saturday night and the arena was only half full!

^ There was a 3900 person turnout on Saturday, which isn't too bad compared to the 3000 people that regularly came out to the games last season.
On another note. I went to the game on Friday, and Lundmark was being an absolute a-hole to Watt all game. Watt hit a Milwaukee player just as the whistle blew and Lundmark came in and face-washed him; then started laughing in his face and mouthing off at him.
I wonder if there was some animosity between these two when they played with each other in both QC and Abby?

Tri-City Americans fan here and have the pleasure to watch Holland play. With one of his linemates out with a concussion he has ammassed 9 goals and 12 assists through his first 16 games. He has 3 powerplay goals and one shorty.

He's already back - has a pair of assists in the 3 games since he returned.

I wasn't sure whether or not to keep up the game by game updates, but I think it's worth mentioning that Ortio just got a shutout against Pelicans.
5-0, 31 saves, first star of the game. He kept the score at 1-0 until the end of the second period, which is pretty sweet, especially since before this game TPS had only held a lead for 18 minutes in 19 games. That's 18 minutes altogether in the entire season.

Nice to see him get the start again. Looks pretty good for him at the moment, but I suppose it's possible they'll go back to Engren if the team starts playing better.
Pretty good for a 19-year-old 6th round draft pick. Kipper got only 12 games with TPS at his age (4.14 gaa).

Did TPS suck less at the time or did Kipper manage to develop his confidence and skill on a poor team? Because the GAA he had at the time is pretty high.

First of all, obviously I don't know or remember any concrete details.
But it goes without saying that for certain TPS sucked a lot less then than now, and that's putting it mildly. I mean, this season is already legendary for TPS. Everyone's just astonished at how bad they've been.
Traditionally, TPS has been a very good team with what a strong development program. From the late 80's right through the 90's, the dominant teams in the league were Jokerit and TPS. Between 1989 and 2001, TPS won 8 championships and came second 3 times. Kipper played those 12 regular season games in 1995-96 and that year TPS lost in the finals.
Kipper won the championship in 1995, when he was a backup, played those 12 regular season games the next season, with 114 minutes in the playoffs with a 2.10 gaa according to wikipedia, and then he left for Sweden where he was a starter for 2 years. Returning to TPS for the 1998-9 season, he was the best goaltender in the league, won the championship and was the MVP of the playoffs. I don't know any details, but you can see his development.
Considering how talented he was, it's remarkable how long it took for him to get a regular job in the NHL. Spent a lot of time in the AHL after that despite how brilliant he was in 1998-9. Probably wouldn't happen today. But San Jose had pretty stiff competition for the goalie spots back then. If Ortio put up those numbers, he'd be in Calgary so fast.

The funniest example like that is Patrick Roy's junior numbers. 6.26 GAA, 4.44 GAA, and then 5.55 GAA.

Erixon has picked up 3 assists, since I last checked his stats.
He now has 2 goals and 3 assists in 17 games.
Has anyone here watched him play, or being following him a more closely?
How has he looked?
Last year in 45 games he had 7 goals and 6 assists.
So his numbers are on pace to be a bit better so far this season.
Also, I just checked Bjorklund's stats and in one game so far in the SEL he has one assist. Not sure when that game was played or whats up with him right now, anyone know?

Should be interesting to see how the season develops.

I never would have pegged Gaelan Patterson to be outscoring Bryan Cameron by a good margin in Abbotsford. Why isn't Cameron putting up the numbers?
