Good choices if you enjoy the scotch for the peaty taste I would try the Ardbeg 10 year. The others claim they are more peaty but Ardbeg truly is. Being a 10y you can get away with a better price too.

If you have every heard of Jim Murray the author of the Whiskey Bible he choses Ardbeg too.

Thanks for the recommendation!

And no, I've never heard of Jim Murray... but then again, I don't care how things taste to other people, I care how they taste to me ;-)

As a general commentary, I try to stay away from the "experts" in the alcohol industry because I think it is generally an absurd premise for one person to rank subjective tastes for millions of others.

This is my all-time favorite example of the subject.

That is a perfect attitude to have.

But I still believe you will enjoy the Ardbeg10

This is for the nights when I feel like being a rockstar.

I can't stand whiskey or most other types of hard alcohol, but I can drink this stuff straight until I black out. It tastes like cinnamon hearts and it's 35%.

Due to what some would deem "poor choices" as an undergrad, I can no longer stomach whiskey or tequila.

So it's a beer or gin & tonic/vodka-something. I like Grasshopper or Guiness or Stella's. Of course the latter two were in the States, when drinking good beer could still be relatively cheap. I don't really enjoy liquor in a standalone form anymore.

I've had similar experiences, but later in life I did discover the world of difference between good tequila and the swill that causes blindness when you puke it. Honestly, it doesn't even taste like the same liquor. So if you haven't tried it, try Patron or something of that ilk. If you have and still can't stomach, my condolences and also congrats on surviving the alcohol poisoning.

Thanks! haha. I can't even smell Tequila without feeling a little queasy. Whiskey is a bit better, I can still drink it heavily mixed. I was offered Patron, smelled it and couldn't do the shot.

Eventually they get tired of waking up with a sore butt.

Probably the best micro brewery beer I have ever tasted.

I just started getting into Scotch, so far Macallan is my favourite.. but I have yet to try Lagavulin (sp?) or Talisker.. Oban was very good as well.

http://www.paddockwood.com/

Saskatoon Micro Brewery that has some very nice beer. If you are ever in town grab a pint of Black Cat at the Freehouse downtown across from the Bes, or a beer at Weczeria if you want the best food in town to go with it.

Had this when I was in Winnipeg and Wow or wow, one of the best micro brewery beer I have ever tasted. The Dark was just great. Highly recommend to anyone in the area.

I bought some Anchor Summer Beer during the Stampede. Thought it was okay, nothing spectacular though. I can't comment on the other varieties.

And yes, the FG Dark is really good.

In the spirit of Boardwalk Empire we should all go out and buy some

Anchor Steam is my favourite beer. I tried the Liberty Ale as well and it was pretty good too.

So I am in Calgary in late November (if not earlier for a Flames game) for a conference and I want to find the best micro brewery beer in town.

Where is the #1 Pub to hit in Calgary with the best selection of local beer? I have heard Wild Rose is an interesting brand.

*besides big rock

I drink whatever gives me the coolest promotional knick-knackery. I really like my Alberta Premium belt buckle from last month. I usually won't bother with a t-shirt or a hat because I consider myself somewhat above that, but I'll take almost anything else.

If by interesting you mean horrible, then yes. I really cannot stand that swill.
