What I want to know is why the sudden silence from Palin,Gingrich,MCain,Boehner and the rest of the leading right?
Not one word about the Quran burning.
They know it is wrong but they do not dare say it, as it would go against the views of their base. I think that really sums up what the right wing base is all about doesnt it.
I don't know. Another block or two. Where is the land located that was offered in the swap? The place they want to build on right now was damaged by a part of one of the planes. That's too close!
The funniest part of this whole "debate", that already was a mosque on 9/11. So a peice of the plane hit the mosque, now its too close?

Palin and Gingrich have been rather vocal and against it. Gingrich is the one who declared 59th street as some magical barrier between where you can (north of) and where you can't (south of) build the center.
I can't recall hearing much from McCain or The Orange One. Of course, they have a low standard to live up to since Obama wimped out. On the other end of the scale, the two people who came out strongest for the place have been Bloomberg and Orrin Hatch (R-UT).

One of the funnier inconsistencies has been the wacky Palin and her us vs them, coastal elite vs real america rhetoric slamming up against her need to now feel as one with those coastal elite New Yorkers who suffered during 9/11 and should not have to see an islamic cultural center.

It's pretty obvious that the populist-fascist narrative is coming out in a big way in the United States. It happens from time-to-time. Read some of Palin's stuff and then go back to read some of William Jennings Bryant. It's not a matter of right or left, it's something else entirely.
not at all your fault, I was vague so I did an edit
I understand that their prior BS against the islamic center exposes them in this debate, and consistency suggests that they should express some type of opinion here. However, ultimately I don't think it is their responsibility to say anything. This is clearly something that is legal, and if the church wants to get the permits and such then all power to it. I don't think politicians need to acknowledge, support or refudiate every wacko out there.
I think Petraeus came out against it and I'm not so sure I'm in favour of him speaking out. I think it crosses a line whereby the military becomes bogged down in fighting rhetoric on a political level rather than focusing on executing the orders of the government.

SORRY but populist - fascism is what is in this thread. Not in the concern for what is being built. Instead of outreach there is name calling. A simple search on Youtube will bring up the head of the Mosque explaining that he believes that America is at fault for radicalizing Muslims. As if....passing wind in the West seems to radicalize 20% of them any time1
Islam has done nothing for modernity, justice, progress, equality, tolerance nor dignity of women or children. Their 700AD modernity has run its course 1400 years ago. People are making excuses for Islam.

I await the cultural equivalency.
Yeah Muslims definitely have nothing to be upset about. They should be perfectly happy being treated as expendable second class citizens. Wouldnt have anything to do with US foreign policy over the last 60ish years.

I await a post that makes a lick of sense. I seriously have no idea what you're trying to say.

I saw a clip of Glenn beck saying the exact same thing as the mosque leader, but admonishing the mosque leader on another clip.
I wish I could find it though.
The Quran was written about 550 years after the bible what exactly was Christianity doing in the 1500's to promote "equality, justice, tolerance, and dignity of women and children"?
Wasn't the Spanish Inquisition in 1492-early 1500's?
So I guess christianity had some scars too when it was only 1500 years old.

This is the 21 century. Not the 7-14th century. Some people rose out of the Dark ages to explore the stars....I will give you a hint, they rhyme with Westerners.
Seabass...go live in Saudi Arabia.....maybe you will understand then. Or maybe you will re-affirm your hypothesis that we'd be space bound in the 1700s if not for religion.
